Igbo is the principal native language of the Igbo people, an ethnic group of southeastern Nigeria. Igbo is spoken in southern Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Haiti,Barbados, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, it also supplied a large chunk of words to the Jamaican Patois. There are about 45 Million native speakers

There are many and large easily available corpora in Igbo Language. It is a language with many books. It is a native language and also a minority language in some countries, and used in schools. See en:Igbo language. With up to 650 languages spoken in Nigeria, Igbo is one of the 3 major languages.

Seed group of participants[edit]

Describe a bit about the seed group that wants to coordinate and actively participate. Describe its size, its current activity, why this group will likely still exist in three years time. Does anyone in the group know how to code? How many in the group know Igbo? How many in the group are not living where the language is spoken, or are not native speakers?

There is a community of Igbo contributors and a User Group called Igbo Wikimedians User Group, both from native backgrounds, across many different geographies. There are users who know how to code. They all speak Igbo.

Potential for community growth[edit]

Describe the potential for the language community to grow. Is Internet access widely available? Through which kind of devices usually? What is the literacy rate in the language community? Are there universities, vocational schools, or similar institutions, and how large are the student populations?

The community is large and keeps growing and still has growth potentials. Internet access is available and they usually use more of mobile devices. There are also universities and the literacy rate is up to 80%.

Openness of the existing community to innovation[edit]

If there is a Wikipedia in that language, how open has it been to Wikidata? To Article Placeholder? To bot editing and usage of modules?
