Babel[edit]

Re: your IRC question, it might be because you're mixing in non-babel content? - try removing those 3 at the bottom, and see if that fixes it?

or, it might be because you have your site language preferences set to a seventh language? (it will only show 6 in the "In more languages" box, by default). Check the top of the page, next to your username (assuming vector/monobook skin), and see if it's English or British English? (Mine is Canadian English, but that's primarily so that I discover bugs like this! ;-)

If it's neither of those, I'm not sure what else it could be. HTH. Quiddity (talk) 03:11, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Quiddity: Aha! That was indeed it — Adding en-GB to the Babel to match my site language prefs made it work. Thank you! — OwenBlacker (talk) 19:39, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Labels[edit]

Hi. At Queens' College (Q765642) you added more complex labels, where as the guidance is to disambiguate through the description, not the label.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:23, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@billinghurst: It's very common for Oxbridge colleges to be referred to as "Jesus College, Cambridge", rather than just "Jesus College". This isn't just disambiguation, but also genuine alternative labels for them. — OwenBlacker (talk) 17:29, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic medal[edit]

Hi,

I see you used one structure for Olympic medal on Red Gerard (Q28320496), I used a different method for Laura Dahlmeier (Q4980869) and Andreas Wellinger (Q127538) (that I copied from other items). The two structures sounds equally food to me, is their a documentation or a best practice for that? or do you just have an opinion on that?

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:47, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Salut VIGNERON !
😊 — OwenBlacker (talk) 12:32, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again (we can speak English, no problem for me but thanks for replying in French),
I see thanks for the explanations. I think the Michael Phelps (Q39562) structure is a bit off; it seems to indicate that Michael Phelps only won 7 seven Olympic medals (which is obviously not true). But you're right, we should discuss about that on a broader page, as there is apparently no project for the Olympics, Wikidata:Project chat is probably the best place.
My talk page uses Flow but you'll have to ask to Trizek (WMF) for activation (the system of activation changed since the time I activated it, back then I asked for the activation on a meta page which doesn't exist anymore :/ ).
Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 07:34, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The activation system is broken at the moment but any sysop can convert the page. Trizek (WMF) (talk) 08:22, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

LGBT[edit]

Nope, use non-heterosexuality (Q339014) instead. – Máté (talk) 15:02, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OwenBlacker. I read your comment about part of (P361) and languages. IMHO, Keresan (Q35878) should not have has part(s) (P527) used for listing all languages that are part of this language family. This information can be determined from a SPARQL query. So using part of (P361), as a doublon of subclass of (P279) —both are storing exactly the same information— only for removing the constraint error does not seem to me a good reason. I did not search but I think this has been already discussed in the concerned WikiProject. If you think this is really important, could you start a new discussion on the WikiProject? Pamputt (talk) 22:22, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pamputt: I only added it because of the error notification on Eastern Keres (Q15649021). If the doublon shouldn't be there, then surely the constraint should be removed? — OwenBlacker (talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 22:24, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the constraint is useful for other items. IMO, what should be removed is property has part(s) (P527) of Keresan (Q35878). I will have a look tomorrow to see if there are others elements about language family that are in the same situation. Pamputt (talk) 22:27, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pamputt: Yeah, that would make sense. What I mean is the doublon shouldn't occur but nor should an error display. Whether that's by creating an exception to the constraint or by removing has part(s) (P527) seems less important to me, tbh 🙂 — OwenBlacker (talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 22:36, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I removed part of (P361) in Eastern Keres (Q15649021) and has part(s) (P527) in Keresan (Q35878). Pamputt (talk) 05:44, 26 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
