Legal form: Q18624259[edit]

Hi. Why these reverts? Isn't ООО (Q21191682) the actual and presumably correct legal form for these Russian companies then? Note that private limited company (Q18624259) is a generic organization type, it isn't about legal form as defined in any particular legal system. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:A1D0:A367:2C:F437 12:17, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Wikidata is a multilingual knowledge graph. Q18624259 is Wikidata item with 29 interwiki links. Russian, English, etc. articles – with information about "ООО". Q21191682 is orphan item with 1 (one) interwiki… to the German article! Readers of Russian, English and other 27 Wikipedias should not see links to such an item in articles (for example, in infoboxes with Wikidata values) instead of links to articles in their languages. The score is 29:1. – Helgi-S (talk) 14:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think the primary goal here is to provide data that is accurate. This is why separate items for ООО (Q21191682), Aktiengesellschaft (Q875765), Sociedad limitada (Q15648901) and many other legal forms in particular legal systems have been created. Properties like applies to jurisdiction (P1001) and main regulatory text (P92) with different values apply to each of these legal forms. In any case, these separate legal form items are in use as legal form (P1454) values (not my invention). Generic classes are also in use, but this seems to be mostly due to import of inaccurate Wikipedia infobox data that is yet to be corrected.
The fact that Wikipedia articles sometimes combine similar topics into one article (and they may have a reason to do so) generally doesn't mean that Wikidata has to mix topics in similar manner. If Wikipedia doesn't have a separate article on some topic, then this is rather a limitation of Wikipedia, not Wikidata. As for the multilingual nature of Wikidata, you can add labels in all the necessary languages to ООО (Q21191682). 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:A1D0:A367:2C:F437 15:32, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If Wikipedia lacks a separate article on relevant topic and link to Wikidata item in place of article link is unwanted, then this template/module on Wikipedia should probably be corrected. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:A1D0:A367:2C:F437 15:52, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In Russian Wikipedia there are fans of replacing statements (and not only in infoboxes) with Wikidata values. Now I have received an additional argument against this. You believe that the Wikidata item is valuable on its own as part of the knowledge base. I do not argue. However, readers don't read Wikidata :). Do as you see fit. – Helgi-S (talk) 16:27, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
