Redundant information[edit]

Hi,

I'm a bit puzzled about your comment on Special:Diff/806846211. Do you really need these data on this item? Can't Wikivoyage inferred this from the country? Will you add the currency (P38) and other data to every place in the world, regions, cities and hamlets?

It's not « absolutely necessary to remove them » but it would be better to fix the problem on Wikivoyage. Could you tell me more about the problem, maybe I can take a look.

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 14:30, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@VIGNERON: Sure, thanks for taking an interest. This refers to voy:template:quickbar. It provides an infobox populated from Wikidata. The template is mostly used for countries, but sometimes it is used on islands that are part of other countries, or autonomous regions. It is used on voy:Corsica. In any case, when there is information missing from Wikidata, the template skips that information. So that leaves it up to the traveler to also look at the page on the country to get all the information; better to have it on one page.
Maybe there is technically a way to get the relevant info from the top-level country if it is missing, but it is not always equal. For example, until I added the information, United States Virgin Islands (Q11703) had no driving side (P1622), which is left (Q13196750), not right (Q14565199) as in the rest of the USA.
For an idea of pages with some missing info, there is a maintenance category there. Best, ARR8 (talk) 14:45, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see (and I'm glad it's limited to country-like territory). The template has a module (which is a good thing, I'm not good with Lua but I know that it can retrieve data from the top-level country item ; something like if no value, then look for value on the item linked with P17 but it should be done properly for each properties - I don't know how to do the last part but it should be doable). The best would be to ask to @T.seppelt: who created this module.
If there is a different data like driving side (P1622) for United States Virgin Islands (Q11703), here there is no problem, you're right to add the data. My concern is when is data is exactly the same (bad things can happens when redundant information are duplicated, like incomplete updates and incomplete referencing). In the meantime, I'll leave the data you added on Corsica (Q14112). Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 15:17, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@VIGNERON: That is a good point about the problems with duplicate information. However, I still don't really like the idea of looking on P17. I mentioned United States Virgin Islands (Q11703) because that information was missing for a very long time. If we had that automatic lookup, then we would have had wrong information and no one would have noticed. I think missing information is tolerable in that case.
Of course, the situation is not ideal. Maybe if there were a way to specify "If there is missing information, automatically source it from this different item" then that would be okay, because it can be verified that everything matches. For example, if I could write {{quickbar|electricity=Q142}} to fetch eletricity from France, that would solve both our problems. ARR8 (talk) 15:33, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@VIGNERON, Jumpy01: Hi. You may be interested to know that I've made the discussed change to the Wikivoyage quickbar module, so the duplicate info is no longer necessary. I've removed it accordingly. Thanks, ARR8 (talk) 17:14, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, thank you! Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 20:01, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Artist[edit]

Hello, hope you are doing well. Please reconsider your deletion request of our artist, Nuckles. He is the only artist with press and news about him (google his name in Arabic and you will find news about him). Thank you! Musiccollective97 (talk) 07:16, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Musiccollective97: Feel free to make a request for undeletion at Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard. The administrators have more experience than me in this sort of thing. ARR8 (talk) 16:55, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
