Approved tasks

The following tasks have been approved via Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot and Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Administrator, in line with the Wikidata:Bots policy.

Task 1: manage page protections for “highly used items”

This task aims to implement the outcome of the RfC “semi-protection to prevent vandalism on most used Items” that has been held between February and June 2019. The outcome was that “highly used Wikidata items” (which means that the item is used on more than 500 pages in the Wikimedia universe) should be indefinitely semi-protected, and this semi-protection should be lifted once the item falls below this usage number again.

As these item usage numbers are not easily available, the RfC has not been implemented by the community for quite a while. WMDE meanwhile provides the corresponding numbers as a side project of the Wikidata Concepts Monitor (WDCM) with a weekly running job and puts usage results for “highly used items” here. The definition of item usage in the sense of the evaluation is described at Wikidata:Wikidata Concepts Monitor and wikitech:Wikidata Concepts Monitor, and the code of the WDCM tool can be reviewed at Wikimedia Gerrit.

A known limitation is that any use within the “Structured Data at Commons” (SDC) project as well as Wikidata-internal usage in the content namespaces are not yet considered (as of March 2021).
