@billinghurst: Do you think you could help me sort something out? I'm curious whether this fellow (Pete French) is related to Major L. H. French, who was the financial backer of the w:en:Malheur Enterprise newspaper, founded in 1909. It's possible that this is the same L. H. French, but I'm not certain...no mention on this about army rank or anything like that. The best info I have on L.
