Jean (fr) /Jean (en)[edit]

Not sure if there is really a link between the two names. Thus I didn't use P1560 to link them. ----- Jura 18:48, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Michiel1972: Gabriele/Auguste/Simone are similar. Same spelling, but from different languages. The version for the other gender in the same language is different. --- Jura 18:55, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: It was my opinion that now we have P1560 it is better to replace the unclear (not good defined, not fitting names) property opposite of (P461) with a more meaningful property. I understand your concern, but you still want to use P461 for these cases? Michiel1972 (talk) 21:40, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Michiel1972: The idea was for P1560 to group names by meaning (as does P460) rather than mere spelling (P735, P1533 do that).
Eventually, we might be able to generate pages like the ones done by Italian Wikipedia (see an example a it:Cornelio). ----- Jura 05:58, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jane/Jean, same names in Scotland[edit]

Don't know if this is the correct place to put this but these two names are the same in Scotland. A girl baptised or registered at birth with the name Jane would traditionally be known in the community as Jean (though I'm not sure how many people know this today!). Jane could be seen as the formal name and Jean as the pet form of the name (hypocorism) (and with Jeannie as a pet form of Jean, of course!).

I was aimlessly and timewastingly (:-) following links on Wikidata today and came upon the Project: Names section. I've been a registered user and editor (not so much of late) on Wikipedia for a good few years and had totally forgotten about this Project, so I followed some links and on the Talk Page noticed and entry "Jean opposite of Jean?", which sounded strange, so I investigated. I looked at the pages for Jean and Jane and didn't see anything about the traditional Scottish usage of these two names. I opened the edit page at various points but couldn't see any natural place to make a comment or an appropriate link anywhere so I left it. And with all the very technical language on the Talk Pges I shied away from any thought of trying anything. I'm extremely interested in the project but I would have to read up on it before getting at all inolved.
