Values for P279[edit]

Hi y'all,

Tomastvivlaren recently changed the raks of values of P279 :

The first is a bit strange (I would put both hypothesis at the normal rank and maybe qualifiers like criterion used (P1013)), the second is plain wrong (regardless of the rank, I would just remove it as it's already there in the upper classes).

Ping to other person who touch these statements @Matěj Suchánek, Visite fortuitement prolongée, Pasleim, Infovarius, Le Loy, عُثمان: what do you think?

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 13:06, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@VIGNERON This change should just be reverted or deprecated; the Nostratic hypothesis is a fringe perspective which has been rejected by most linguists. (My internet connection is sporadic at fhe moment otherwise I would link some references that demonstrate this more clearly.) عُثمان (talk) 13:30, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a clear mistake. Mainstream linguistics rejects the Nostratic hypothesis, so Wikidata should not mark it as a preferred piece of information about a language. One of the reasons is that in this case, Wikidata-synced infoboxes show Nostratic at the top of the language phylogeny information. Le Loy (talk) 08:57, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
