Bad illustration : Clare of Assisi ? Not at all[edit]
The picture given as illustration was usualy said as showing Clare of Assisi. But more and more franciscan authors, like Thaddée Matura, contest this affirmation putting forward several arguments:
- The painting is depicting a woman having a civil veil, and an accessory in her hand that is not a lily, symbol of purity (martyr of virginity) like her neighbor on the painting
- Clare is usually represented, even by Simone Martini himself in the same Saint Francis Basilica, with a black monastic veil and a white under-veil and white en:guimpe, and not with a white civil veil, and surely not without the guimpe, as in this painting, often with a lily.
- The alo contains seven suns, that has nothing to do with Claire, but rather with Jacoba of Settesoli ( seven suns = settesoli ).
So now it is clear that the picture is of Jacopa of Settesoli, even if she has never been canonized. She spent the rest of her live near the brothers, and is burried in the same Basilica of Assisi.
So it should be better to put an other picture in the infobox.
