No German expression for "Needlework"[edit]
There is no german expression for needlework. The closest would be "sticken" which means embroidery. Therefore I removed the german translation "Nadelarbeit". -- Xorx (talk) 20:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- There is also a problem for Danish (Q9035) "håndarbejde" (håndarbejde (L581032)). It entails (manual) sewing (Q652122), weaving (Q192296), knitting (Q193188), etc., while the English (Q1860) concept seems to be narrower. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 08:21, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- In my opinion "Nadelarbeit" works as a translation of "needlework". It may be the case that it is not 100% the same and does not cover all nuances, but this may be the case with all translations of everyday terms. If you define "needlework" as "anything that uses a needle for construction [and is decorative]" (as done in the English Wikipedia article) "Nadelarbeit" covers quite the same (see also de:Liste_textiler_Handarbeiten, section Nadelarbeit). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 10:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- German Wikipedia knows the expression de:Nadelarbeit. @Xorx: In Zweifelsfällen bitte im Duden nachschlagen, siehe Nadelarbeit. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:43, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
