Flick was tried at Nürnberg for exploiting Russian slave labour in his mines and plants; he was convicted and served three years of a seven-year prison sentence. Even with 75 percent of his empire confiscated after the war, Flick managed to amass another fortune by returning to coal and steel. He sold part of his holdings in the Ruhr region and, with the $45,000,000 in proceeds, bought postwar industrial concerns for a fraction of their true worth. Flick owned a 40 percent interest in Daimler-Benz, the automobile manufacturers, as well as paper, chemical, and synthetic-fibre plants. (English)
