The suit claims Gauthe should have been removed from his post by church officials after they first heard reports of the molestations.In a sworn statement after the suit was filed in 1984, Frey said he had heard allegations against Gauthe 10 years earlier but had allowed him to remain a pastor after he promised to reform. A local newspaper called for his resignation. In an interview, Frey said Gauthe had tricked him into thinking he was cured.Frey wouldn't directly admit that he had been wrong to keep Gauthe in ministry.
