Distinguishing from sponsor (P859) property[edit]

Would someone be able to specify what distinguishes sponsor (P859) from this property. I was under the impression that endorsement was a distinguishing feature, but this seems not to be the case as funder (P8324) is set as a subproperty of sponsor (P859). — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fnielsen, Jura1: Note that investor (P1951) may also be involved, at least in many Asian languages, they have very close-to-same translation words. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:50, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also @GZWDer, Deryck Chan, Tacsipacsi: as they worry label translations in many places. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I can see how this works. @Liuxinyu970226, Fnielsen:

I'll add zh and yue labels. --Deryck Chan (talk) 16:13, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Deryck Chan: Then how about investor (P1951)? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:29, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: An investor wants their money back (either by loan repayment, or by owning a share of the company and taking a share of future profits). A funder pays for a project so that goods and services (e.g. scientific research) may be produced for public / communal benefit. There can be some overlap between the two concepts (e.g. patrons of the arts - if the artwork becomes popular and sells lots of tickets / copies / ad revenue the patron may earn money), but I think the difference between them is sufficiently clear to justify two properties.
