Split in Two Props[edit]

@Teolemon, Pigsonthewing, Fnielsen, AVRS, ArthurPSmith:

Source/Website: I cannot find a search on https://gtin.info, but you can search (with some limitations) at https://gepir.gs1.org

The property focuses on GS1 identifier prefixes:

I did some experiments with Carrefour (Q217599) → 302047, 302182, 37004707, 376024694 (and added them to "property example").

There are 2 problems with prefixes:

  • You can't search by prefix in GEPIR. It complains of a wrong checksum, then "corrects" the last digit, and still doesn't find anything.
  • GLN applies to a company directly (as well as its branches and warehouses), so how would you record the GLN of the company?

Search for "Carrefour" at https://gepir.gs1.org/index.php/search-by-party-name (unfortunately you have to pick "country: France" first) and you find:

Co. Prefix Key Licensee GLN Co. Name City State Province
3020470000000 INTERDIS-GROUPE CARREFOUR MASSY
37004707 3700470700000 EARL DU CARREFOUR SAUMUR
37011121 3701112100011 CARREFOUR POUR L'INSERTION ET LE DEVELOPPEMENT DES LA ROCHEFOUCAULD
3021820000008 INTERDIS-GROUPE CARREFOUR MONDEVILLE
3770008885 3770008885011 37 CARREFOUR DES SAVEURS BALLAN MIRE

(Unfortunately I wasn't able to make a direct access URL).

As you can see:

  • Not all the Carrefour prefixes listed as examples can be found in France "Carrefour". Teolemon, are these associated to French "Carrefour" companies?
  • Not every GLN has an associated prefix.
  • In the 3 cases above the GLN uses the same Company Prefix (used for GTIN).
    • But that's not always the case. Eg if you search for US "Google", you find this:
    • Only one of the prefixes (given in the example: "08653210001") corresponds to the GLN, the others do not
Co. Prefix Key Licensee GLN Co. Name City State Province
0854448003 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
081157101 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
08653210001 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
0891140002 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
08427761 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
081003729 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
081002993 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
081002873 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
0193575 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA
08402447 0865321000104 Google LLC MOUNTAIN VIEW CA

Therefore I propose to rename this to "GS1 Company Prefix" (as GS1 doesn't have a term "Manufacturer code") and to split off a new property "GLN": Wikidata:Property_proposal/GLN Do you agree?

Also Teolemon, where did you find evidence that the Company Prefixes is used for things other than GTIN? Let's add it to the prop info.
