Blank votes[edit]

It might depend on the election system if blank votes are considered invalid or merely not expressing a preference for a candidate. Should we exclude blank votes or add a qualifier to specify it? Or just take what the source gives and then see how it adds up.

@Jura1: Is the suggestion that in some voting systems, number of blank votes (P5045) is a subset of number of abstentions (P5043), whereas in other voting systems, number of blank votes (P5045) is a subset of number of spoilt votes (P5044)? Dhx1 (talk) 13:54, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, total valid votes (P1697) includes or excludes number of blank votes (P5045). Meaning that:
Also:
Note that the reference provided at Q29837047#P1697 mentions "suffrages exprimés" (if I recall correctly), which can translate as "expressed votes". Blank and invalid are given in one number in the same ref.

@Jura1, Dhx1: It's confuse to me, but I believe it's more a question of definition, maybe? When I proposed, I said that didn't knew other types of elections but the Brazilian, so I may did a mistake in the definition. Each voting system has it's own method of valid or invalid votes. Maybe adding has part(s) (P527) to total number of valid votes is a solution? Create total number of invalid votes with the same qualifier may help too. ˜˜˜˜
