Items with participant in (P1344) = conclave (Q186431) need a position held (P39) = WD:Q45722. Good (mandatory) constraint to detect few mistakes. (Help)

More specific statements?
[edit]Would it be possible to use more specific statements for this property? For olympic competitors I was thinking about the exact event(s) the athletes participated in. An example: Could Q5307471 (Tsepo Ramonene) instead of being stated as being a participant of Q8577 (2012 Summer Olympics) rather be a participant of: Q1798983 (Athletics at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon)? This would make it much easier to make sure that all athletes are listed (and none are wrongly listed). One could go through the official results of e.g. the Marathon event of the 2012 Olympics and make sure each participant has P1344:Q5307471 and noone else. I assume it is possible to somehow define Q5307471 and the equivalent items as subgroups of Q8577 and thus still have the possibility to define all participants of the 2012 Olympics. --Wikijens (talk) 11:09, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- Made an attempt at Q441622 (2006 and 2010 winter olympics with reference to official report). Does it make sense? --Wikijens (talk) 15:35, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Loosening of constraint
[edit]I suggest that the allowed-entity-types constraint (Q52004125) constraint be loosened to also allow Wikibase MediaInfo (Q59712033). This to accomodate it's use on Wikimedia Commons for e.g. images participating in Wiki Loves Monuments (Q1353202) or other competitions/events. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 09:53, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- No problem. Commons is free to use property in whatever way they prefer. However, any use at Commons shouldn't require a change to any other constraint than the allowed entity type constraint. Is this correct here? --- Jura 10:08, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- The constraint here shows up on Commons since it uses the Wikidata version of the Property. See e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fr%C3%B6jel_kastalruin_Gotland.jpg#P1344 /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 12:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Jura1 Sorry I misread your answer. No I don't believe any other constraints than allowed-entity-types constraint (Q52004125) need to be changed on the property. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 09:28, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

- @André Costa (WMSE): it happens quite often that people add a constraint (in this case User:Neo-Jay) and forget about Commons. Quite understandable because it's a different project. I usually just add the missing statement to get rid of the constraint violations on Commons. Multichill (talk) 17:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Multichill: Thank you for fixing my edit by adding Wikibase MediaInfo (Q59712033) as allowed entity types constraint (Q52004125). --Neo-Jay (talk) 21:27, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Allow coach of sports team (P6087)
[edit]It would make sense to allow coach of sports team (P6087) as qualifier for the same reason that member of sports team (P54) is allowed. That way it can be used not only for the players of a team but also for their coach. Gunnar Larsson (talk) 22:08, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Would be nice with some response:-) Currently I am using it quite a bit (and show the results on Wikipedia using Lua) since it is logically equivalent to using member of sports team (P54), but feel that the additions are at risk of removal as adding the data results in warning-icons. If it for some reason is not advisable it would be good to know an alternative route to storing the same data. Gunnar Larsson (talk) 22:45, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
When to use conflict or participant in for ships
[edit]A warship's role in a battle is notable, less so for wars, as that's inevitable given its dates in commission. My preference is for it to use participant in (P1344) rather than conflict (P607) which I'd use for wars, the distinction between tactical and strategic.battles or wars rarely mention ships at the moment, just states and people, so its probably good to keep it a ship property. participant ou participante à
[edit]Arrêtez de mettre "ou participante à" ce n'est pas un nom "participant" ici mais un participe présent. "participant ou participante à" ne veut rien dire en français !!! Merci d'avance Mith (talk) 16:09, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
