Small typo: page 4 of the form has this: "could youconsider" and should be "could you consider"

The schedule is still looking pretty empty. I checked the general program, and there aren’t really any slots where I’m not interested in any part of the program :/ so I think I would mainly be at the table during the breaks, especially the lunch breaks (1 or 1½ hours – if we can take plates to the RAQ table, like last time, even better).

I’m not sure at what time demand for the table would be highest. Perhaps after the Introduction to the Query Service, Saturday afternoon?

Yeah, I think doing the booth during breaks is the best option. Friday dinner (a 1½ -hour break) before the birthday celebration might also be a good slot.

The WikidataCon 2019 takes place from tomorrow, October 25th, to Saturday October 26th. 250 participants from the Wikidata community, Wikibase community and various organizations are gathering in Berlin. During these two days, a lot of interesting sessions related to Wikidata and Wikibase will take place (program).

The number of available seats for this conference was unfortunately limited, but as we wanted to make sure that the content is accessible to everyone, here's how you can follow what's happening at the conference:

• Sessions taking place in rooms Kleist, Kepler and Einstein will be livestreamed. This means that they can be followed in real time, then accessible in replay a hours after the session, and later released under Creative Commons.
• The streaming will take place on http://streaming.media.ccc.de (at the moment, the link is not set up yet, it will be shortly before the event starts)
• Slides of the speakers and other documents will be added by speakers in a Commons category as well as on the individual pages of the sessions (linked from the program)
• Notes of the sessions are also linked from the sessions pages. Participants in the session should take notes in the pads, and there is a section for remote questions
• After the event, the documentation will be collected, including blog posts, various reviews published by participants, and videos released with multilingual subtitles
• You can follow the hashtag #WikidataCon on Twitter or other social networks. A Discord instance has also been set up by a volunteer.

The first draft of the program of the WikidataCon is now available. The schedule or content may evolve in the upcoming weeks.

The content of the three main session rooms, Kleist, Kepler and Einstein, will be live-streamed and recorded for people who cannot participate in the conference. Documentation on pads will also be provided by the participants, so remote people can follow and interact.

Are the keywords/tags in the session templates used for anything? E. g. can I search for all “data quality” sessions?

Hey! So onwiki, the tags don't link to anything, however it's used for the mobile version of the program where you can see the list of tags and click on them. Eg data quality :)

However, we didn't add tags to the sessions yet. Anyone can do so by editing the wiki page of a session (with the code editor), and adding parameters in the template: tag1, tag2, and so one, like in this example: Wikidata:WikidataCon 2019/Program/Sessions/Data quality panel

Um, in the headings it says room "Austen", in the footer it says "Newton" for the third column from the right. Which one would be right?

Thanks for noticing! It's fixed now, meetups take place in Austen :)

Hello @OlafJanssen, ArthurPSmith, Egon Willighagen, Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE), Pintoch, Beat Estermann: Thanks for organizing a self-organized session! I just updated the page with a schedule of the available rooms. I also suggested some timeslots for a few of the meetups, but you can change them if needed. In general, this area is self-organized: as long as the room is free and open, feel free to add your thing in one of the slots, to find a table in Edison for your projects (tables will be identified with a number) and to communicate directly about your project on the conference channels (mailing-list, Telegram). If you have any questions or issues, feel free to contact me :)

I note that one of the technical side events is the Wikibase workshop. For those who are not really interested in installing their own Wikibase instance, wouldn't it be a good idea to also have a mini-hackathon on Sunday for people who want to work together on tools or data imports or similar projects/tasks? This would also be a good follow-up to the conference sessions in cases where people get ideas on things to work on, or meet like-minded people and want to start planning/collaborating.

Hello, Thanks for your suggestion. Having a hackathon was part of the initial plan, but had to be cancelled for budget reasons. However, during the two days of the conference, there will be a hacking space where you can meet with people and work on projects. You can also check the self-organized sessions.

I would really appreciate such a thing since we have a lot of technical issues with our database that are far above our heads - and here it would be cool to have some counselling - if not practical help.

I'd also have a couple of more complex SPARQL-queries that would create interesting tools for historians - on our own base just as on Wikidata. So if there are people more interested in the technology I would have subject matter to deal with at my finger tips.

@Olaf Simons: What about organizing some kind of "Wikibase config" working table? If you're willing to take care of it, I can make sure that some of my colleagues from the development team participate and help.

About SPARQL: a query booth (place where people can ask for help with queries or exchange tips) should be organized by some participants, it will be added to the self-organized sessions as well.

@Lea Lacroix (WMDE) I will create a list of topics - and will enjoy the occasion. Is there anything about getting a room and advertising the event: Hope I find a free moment during the Stockholm-archive tour next week.

If you're willing to get involved in the event, now is a great time to sign up as a volunteer! Here are the different roles where you can help:

• Room angels: take care of a room during a certain slot, help speakers to set up, take care about timing
• Streaming babysitters: support the videostream team in a room during a certain slot
• Logistics crew: take care of setting up and tearing down the venue, the helpdesk, furnitures, signage...
• Documentation masters: support the attendees with documentation
• Jokers: are willing to support the orga team with any task, on a defined timeslot
• Query booth (self-organized session)

Please note that all of these roles require to be already signed up as a participants. Only some of the documentation tasks can be done remotely.

Are you sure that Google doensnt use the data entered via the forms for the applications for the WikidataCON. Please look for a in-house solutions which stores the Data at Wikimedia-owned servers if possible in Germany. And clarify where the data for the current WikidataCON is stored. Are it Googleservers oder Wikimedia owned servers. I think it were possible to create a form about that user can enter their data for the application for WikidataCON and use Wikibase to store the data. That is something what should be used for all events of Wikimediaactivities where registration via a form is needed. If you dont have the capacity you could make a competition in the community and then they develope solutions you probably can use.

Thanks for your feedback, we'll take your idea in account for the future events. However, you can be reassured that WMDE set up all the necessary precautions to be GDPR-compliant.

After I have wrote the question above I have thinked about the storage of data a bit more. I think if a company in this case Google says that it is conform with GDPR then you need to trust in it and I do so now until something else is known about it.

I am very interested in the Wikibase workshop announced in the side events page. However I wasn't selected to attend the WikidataCon, thus I don't know if I could attend to this workshop.

If this workshop would be confirmed, could I register to attend to this event although I am not selected for the WikidataCon?

Yes, the Wikibase workshop is not part of the WikidataCon, so people can attend independently. I'll update the description of the event very soon and include a registration list!

If you applied but didn't receive anything, please follow these steps: 1) check your spam folder, as the email may have ended there, 2) contact info @ wikidatacon.org.

Please note that the program submissions have not been evaluated yet: this process will happen in July and August. Latest on August 15th, people will receive an answer about their submissions, and the final program will be online at the beginning of September.
