Aim and Scope
The aim of the present project is to create the world’s most complete high-quality database of archives, museums, libraries and similar institutions. While the main focus is on institutions that have curatorial care of a collection which they safeguard for future generations, the scope of the project extends to related institutions, such as lending libraries, exhibition centres, zoos, and the like, to the extent that they are not covered by any other WikiProject.
The project more specifically serves to coordinate the following activities:
- the creation of an inventory of all existing public databases that contain data about heritage institutions;
- the implementation and maintenance of ontologies and multilingual thesauri relating to heritage institutions;
- the ingestion of data about heritage institutions into Wikidata;
- the enhancement and completion of such data;
- the use of the data to create maintenance lists on Wikipedia and to facilitate the creation of Wikipedia articles on heritage institutions;
- the inclusion of the data into Wikipedia and its sister projects, through Wikidata-powered infobox templates or lists.

As of September 2019, there are two formal projects contributing towards these goals:
- FindingGLAMs, carried out by Wikimedia Sweden, in cooperation with UNESCO and the Wikimedia Foundation, with the financial support of the Swedish Postcode Foundation (this project will come to a close in November 2019).
- Sum of All GLAMs, carried out by the Wiki Movement Brazil in cooperation with OpenGLAM CH, with the financial support of the Switzerland-based MY-D Foundation (the first phase of this project started in spring 2019 and is expected to come to a close in fall 2019, yet the project will most likely be continued beyond this date).
Since August 2019, the two project teams are working hand in hand to coordinate their activities and to ensure a smooth transition from one to the other.
In order to implement the model projects developed in the course of the Sum of All GLAMs project on a global scale and to reach out to a wider contributor base, an international campaign will be carried out, starting from fall 2019. The proposed name for the campaign is Wiki Loves GLAMs.
Breakdown of Tasks
The table below shows the breakdown of tasks in the context of the Wiki Loves GLAMs campaign: While some activities are taking place directly on the Wikidata platforms, others involve reaching out to heritage institutions in a given country or implementing and promoting infobox templates on the various language versions of Wikipedia.

Måder at bidrage
There are several ways you can contribute to the project:
- List databases containing data about heritage institutions on the Data Sources page (see also: FindingGLAMs dataset overview page). In case the databases are not publicly accessible, contact the data holder in order to encourage them to release the data to the public (under a CC-0 Waiver or equivalent).
- Create Wikidata items for the databases about heritage institutions (= data sources for the data ingestion)
- Help tackling data modelling issues and clean existing Wikidata items so that they conform to the data modelling guidelines laid out in the Data Structure section.
- Help improving the ontologies and multilingual thesauri (see Data Structure section) needed for the ingestion and proper representation of the data.
- Ingest existing databases containing data about heritage institutions into Wikidata.
- Tidy up the data after batch ingestion (tackle double entries, add “part of”, “has part” relationships, add information about “inception” and/or “dissolution” of institutions where required).
- Help improving the quality and completeness of the data.
- Add links to related projects on Wikipedia; draw their contributors' attention to this project page.
- Develop and implement use cases for the data (e.g. by creating maintenance lists for Wikipedia, by including the data in infoboxes or lists on Wikipedia, etc.).
- Help writing step-by-step guidelines for the various tasks.

Communication Channels
The coordination of the project takes place in different settings:
- Wikidata-related activities: Coordination mainly takes place here on the Wikidata platform itself.
- Country-specific activities: Coordination regarding the outreach to the holders of datasets and to local heritage institutions is ensured at the national level by the national coordinators (to be listed on the wiki). For the purpose of exchanging best practices across language versions, regular video calls are held and the mailing list WLGLAM is used (feel free to sign up!).
- Wikipedia-specific activities: Coordination regarding the implementation and use of the infobox and MBabel templates is expected to take place in the various Wikipedias.
