[edit]Govdirectory is a crowdsourced global directory for public organizations and their contact details. It already has a lot of contact details for public organizations across the world. However, the Fediverse accounts are neither highlighted, nor is there specific statistics or lists for those. In this project we want to address all three of these shortcomings. Thereby, it will easier for people to discover and engage with governments on the Fediverse, regardless if it is one by one or in bulk, and it will be the first statistics page of public organizations with a global scope.
Have you been involved with projects or organisations relevant to this project before? And if so, can you tell us a bit about your contributions?
[edit]Albin Larsson and Jan Ainali are both long time Wikimedians and Wikidata users. We have built the tool Govdirectory, a global directory for government agencies around the world and their contact details, that draws upon the data stored in Wikidata. As such, we have hands-on experience from the Wikidata API and the data model in Wikibase (Wikibase is the MediaWiki extension powering Wikidata and other structured knowledge bases).

Explain what the requested budget will be used for?

All of the budget will be spent on human labor. The work will roughly be divided like this:
- Highlighting Fediverse accounts in the regular view: 10 hours
- Making a special Fediverse view: 60 hours
- Adding Fediverse statistics: 30 hours

[edit]There have been a few lists floating around with some public organizations on Fediverse, like all in one country, or all of one type in the EU, but no that aims to collect them all on a global scale. We have also not seen any comprehensive statistics at all, so this would be a first.
What are significant technical challenges you expect to solve during the project, if any?

Describe the ecosystem of the project, and how you will engage with relevant actors and promote the outcomes?
[edit]The ecosystem is centered around Wikidata. The new functionality will be promoted in the Wikidata newsletter and talks will be submitted to Wikimedia conferences, in particular the Wikidata focused ones. As Govdirectory already is certified as Digital Public Goods, it may fit for their newsletter as well.
