P1112 (P1112) + Pokédex / Pokémon browser number (P1685)

  • @Pasleim: I've just found a technical problem which I didn't notice until you closed the discussion (and I apologize for not pointing it out earlier). Pokédex / Pokémon browser number (P1685) has String datatype while P1112 (P1112) has Quantity datatype. That means merging from P1685 to P1112 is technically impossible (because some entries have non-numerical characters in their Pokemon Browser codes); but merging in the other direction is feasible. There are no known external uses of these properties except in sandboxes. Would it be acceptable if I run my script in reverse and merge all uses of P1112 to P1685 instead? has part (P527): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs | discussion)

Seems redundant with part of (P361), until I see no real need of a reverse property. A SPARQL request would certainly serve this purpose instead. —Nomen ad hoc (talk) 17:14, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Symbol keep vote.svg Keep They are not strict inverses. See Help:Basic membership properties for some background on this. There are also cases where one direction is more sensible than the other (an item could be "part of" many other things - for the element hydrogen is "part of" almost every organic molecule, so the inverse "has part" (or "has parts of the class") is the better relation). • Symbol keep vote.svg Keep; we cannot query from Lua modules, thus redundancies like this one are often necessary. --MisterSynergy (talk) 18:30, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Symbol keep vote.svg Keep It's not redundant. It's possible that 1000 items have "has part" QXXXXXXX with the same QXXXXXXX and there we don't want to have a list with 1000 part of statements. ChristianKl❫ 11:33, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Symbol keep vote.svg Keep I use this one a lot for the three parts of a triptych (Q79218) and in some other cases. Our data set is curated, we the editors choose if adding something like this is sensible. Shouldn't be added everywhere. Multichill (talk) 18:21, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
