See alsoproperty: doctoral advisor

The property: doctoral advisor is only valid for the academic world and only for PhD studies. Remaining academic vertical work relations as well as all other domains (business, public administration, no profit, army) have no property linking the worker to his/her boss/manager/foreperson. --F.Gelati (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

  • Symbol support vote.svg Support Seems useful, and quite different from director/manager (P1037).It would be clearer to have it as A "was/is supervised by" B or A "was/is the supervisor of" B (or similar) to introduce directionality. Suggested qualifiers would help too (type of supervision, time of supervision, place of supervision and so on). TiagoLubiana (talk) 20:45, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

@Pintoch: The property was not mature enough for creation!! The directionality of A "was/is supervised by" B or A "was/is the supervisor of" B is essential. In the way it was created is essentialy useless, as it doesn't model anything clearly. The Symbol support vote.svg Support was recognizing that it is a useful property IF better modeled... @TiagoLubiana: if that was your intention, could I ask you to use {{Wait}} or {{Comment}} rather than {{Support}} next time? ArthurPSmith has marked this property as ready and I would agree with his assessment based on the discussion above. None of your comments seem blocking to me. (We don't do labels with "was/is": that would be redundant as most properties can be qualified temporally.) You can still refine this property after creation (as long as it is consensual with others who commented here), or nominate it for deletion. − Pintoch (talk) 15:57, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
The examples make clear the directionality, but "supervisor" in itself seems a clear enough label in the Wikidata context, similar to director/manager (P1037) and many other properties with similar English labels. ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:02, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the comment, next time I'll use {{Wait}} or {{Comment}}. I'm not familiar with the examples, so I honestly don't know who was the supervisor and who was supervised, though the description indicates it is A "supervisor of" B. director/manager (P1037) is clearer, as a company cannot manage a person. Anyways, it is a good property, I just think the "of" in the name would enhance its meaning. TiagoLubiana (talk) 14:27, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
