identity of object in context[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic

Description(qualifier) Object of statement has another identity covered by another item. Use this qualifier to specify the identity that applies to the statement.
Data typeItem
Example
Planned useMove all existing uses of P794 (P794) that represent this logical relationship to the new property.
See alsoobject has role (P3831), applies to part (P518), Wikidata:Property proposal/identity of subject in relation to statement
Motivation

P794 (P794) is being deprecated due to ambiguity. While most use cases can be transferred to more specific properties that already exist (mainly subject has role (P2868) and object has role (P3831)), several use cases of P794 (P794) are not covered by existing properties. Wikidata:Property proposal/identity of subject in relation to statement accompanies this proposal for use cases where the subject of the statement needs to be qualified. • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment not sure but it seems some of these would be better handled by just changing the object of the statement to the value of this qualfier?? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:14, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

    • "Identity of object in context", which parallels what you've suggested in the proposal twin, can shorten this one too. Deryck Chan (talk) 11:37, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

  • I've migrated most of the use cases similar to those described in the examples. Now let's hope Wikidata:Property proposal/identity of subject in relation to statement come in soon! Deryck Chan (talk) 13:21, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
    • @ArthurPSmith: It looks like you haven't copied the property names in other languages that I've proposed. Have those hidden fields been taken out of use? Deryck Chan (talk) 13:22, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
      • @Deryck Chan: Hi - sorry, those don't get automatically populated from the template, and unfortunately I don't have a way to add those myself as those two languages are not on my list of known languages (so they don't show up as options in the edit interface). You can add those labels yourself if those languages are available to you? ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:51, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
      • @ArthurPSmith: If they neither get automatically imported from the template nor gets displayed on the property proposal page, what's the point of having that field in the property proposal form? Deryck Chan (talk) 17:55, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
        • They do (or should) get displayed if your preferred language is set to one of those languages - see the Preferences page (I think). And if it's a language in my list (like French, German, Russian etc) I do try to add it when creating, so it is helpful to have them. Just not in this case, sorry!
