Data type | String |
Domain | any |
Allowed values | any |

Planned use | use it to add a checksum to distributions of data sets |
- Motivation
Checksums are used in different domains for the purpose of detecting errors. Examples are digital distributions, software downloads and furthermore. Andheb (talk) 22:24, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

- Support - however it should be used with a qualifier specifying the checksum method (eg. MD5 (Q185235)). ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:04, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
- Support. This property will be very helpful for modeling checksums. I agree with ArthurPSmith's suggestion about a qualifier describing the checksum method. YULdigitalpreservation (talk) 17:06, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Andheb, YULdigitalpreservation, ArthurPSmith: Can we decide of how the qualifier should look like before creating this property? At best we write in the description how it's supposed to be used. ChristianKl (talk) 08:49, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- actually that should be in Wikidata usage instructions (P2559) rather than the description. Anyway, the qualifier I would think would be determination method (P459), and value would be the wikidata item corresponding to the checksum function. ArthurPSmith (talk)
