Motivation[edit]

Certain values, fees, rules, etc may apply only to citizens of certain countries or regions.

One could argue that an alternative to Example 1 could be applies to part (P518):Indonesians (Q14535097), however some countries don't have an item of its citizens, (see Japan -> Japanese (referes to the ethnic group). Germartin1 (talk) 10:56, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Added: Some values may apply to certain group of people such as student (Q12337557),child (Q7569) or in India certain castes (such as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Q11555014) Germartin1 (talk) 20:40, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Discussion[edit]

  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment I'm not sure I follow your argument about not using applies to part (P518) - to use this property you also need to create an item (if there isn't already one) for "citizens of X". I think P518 is probably adequate here? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:37, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
@ArthurPSmith: using "applies to citizens of" will not require "citizens of X" but the country itself. I think with this qualifier it will be much more organised as there can already be a applies to part (P518) qualifier to specify another aspect (such as the field of study) of a value. Symbol support vote.svg Support sorry, you're absolutely right, I misread the proposal. Thanks! ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:58, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
@ArthurPSmith: I changed the property name, let me know if you agree with it Germartin1 (talk) 20:40, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

: Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose I think the property can be more general, something like "applies to". --Giovanni Alfredo Garciliano Díaz diskutujo 21:19, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@Giovanni Alfredo Garciliano Diaz: Are you opposing the idea or the specific name? I'm open to change it. How about "valid to people" so it includes ethnic groups or other people. Having properties which are too general creates issues as well. What do you think? Germartin1 (talk) 21:40, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
@Germartin1:Yes, «valid to people» it's a better name, I will support the proposal with that name. --Giovanni Alfredo Garciliano Díaz diskutujo 19:58, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
@Giovanni Alfredo Garciliano Diaz: I changed the property name, let me know if you agree with it Germartin1 (talk) 20:40, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose I find this both too vague that it could convey reliable information and too specific for a general property. --- Jura 10:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jura1: I agree that it is vague, but not that it's too specific. Do you have a better idea? Germartin1 (talk) 17:09, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
I don't think all of the above need to be covered by the same qualifier. --- Jura 18:03, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jura1:Ok, I made some changes in the examples, let me know if it is better now. Germartin1 (talk) 18:33, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Symbol support vote.svg Support as "valid to people", however not using countries as a value. Use the "citizens of X", create new items if needed. Nepalicoi (talk) 17:20, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
