DescriptionRegistration numbers / registration statistics for vehicles
Data typeQuantity
Example5.511 see en:Renault Zoe for France in 2013

At the moment the registration numbers for vehicles are entered in some articles (see Renualt Zoe). This table could be centralized here and then passed into the articles accordingly. This would save a lot of work. However, sub-properties would always have to be set. Like P:17, P:585. Sources could be the KBA or TÜV. 2A02:560:41F9:5600:3DBF:EBB3:3CFA:A6C7 20:16, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment But quantity (P1114) is ambiguous. How should it be handled then? You have "vehicle registrations", "vehicle deregistrations", "sales figures", ect.. So here would be a clean separation made. --2A02:560:4109:7500:4568:462C:C66D:E29C 19:14, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Symbol wait.svg Wait I agree that quantity (P1114) could be used instead, but this property could be valuable as a distinct property. However it would have to be refined a bit. First, the name should be changed to better reflect what we are doing with it. 'vehicle registration number' could easily be seen as a nominal number, such as aircraft registration (P426) is. 'Number of registered instances' or something would be better. Then as above, we need better definition of what this quantity represents. If I register my car in California, then in Oregon, then in Idaho, is that one registered Mazda, or three? It seems there is a lot that has to be fleshed out before this can move forward. • Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose recording these sorts of statistics on country items is not scalable, I think. − Pintoch (talk) 08:46, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
Pintoch, what du you mean? For Germany, for example, the "Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt" publishes many statistics for that. For Franse, too. mfg --Crazy1880 (talk) 19:24, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
@Crazy1880:I mean that it is not feasible to record many such statistics on Wikidata items about countries. (Yes of course it is possible to publish that sort of data elsewhere! I am talking about Wikidata's data model specifically.) Here is why. If we create this property, why not also a property for the number of aeroplanes registered? And the number of accredited oncologists? And the number of public defibrilators? Each of these properties would appear multiple times on each country item because the quantity varies over time. The issue is that Wikidata does not cope very well with thousands of statements on the same item. Basic statistics such as population and GDP seem inevitable, but even for these we run into the issue that they change frequently (hence the introduction of the Commons tabular datatype, for instance used by tabular population (P4179)). Is it clearer? It is a purely logistical issue, that will hopefully be solved in the future. − Pintoch (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
@Pintoch: Pictogram voting question.svg Question I agree with your assessment of Wikidata technical limitations, but in that case, would you support this property if it were as tabular data per your example? Josh Baumgartner (talk) 18:59, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
@Joshbaumgartner: why not! I think this feature is still quite experimental but it will only get better if we use it. − Pintoch (talk) 08:25, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree, so if this proposal were reworked as that, I'd be supportive. I don't have much knowledge of the tabular feature yet, but as you say, it will only get better with use. Josh Baumgartner (talk) 09:34, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment This lingers around for quite some time. I think we should be able to include this somehow, but the proposal doesn't provide much detail on how this would work. Obviously, the numbers shouldn't end up on country items. Maybe there isn't that much data that it couldn't be on items for car models. --- Jura 18:10, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
