Data typeCommons media file
DomainLikely replaces over-specific Property:P3383, would be used for the extremely common (yet neglected) case of, for example, theatrical posters.
Allowed valuesCommons media file
Example 1Werther (Q926468) would move image to poster
Example 2La Navarraise (Q2709440) ditto
Example 3Thaïs (Q1144467) ditto
Planned useWell, I'm currently working on a long set of posters for commons, none of which are film posters.
See alsoimage, film poster.

We literally have a filter trying to push the use of film poster (P3383) in inappropriate places, e.g. note under image (P18) statement at La Navarraise (Q2709440). Either fixing the over-specific "film poster" property, or adding this more generic term will help. Adam Cuerden (talk) 21:02, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

  • What speaks against widening the scope of film poster (P3383)? ChristianKl❫ 08:54, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
  • @ChristianKl: I presume it'd need retranslated and linked more appropriately. That would be my preferred option, honestly, but I don't know how to even propose that. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:21, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Generally, the way to do this is to start a discussion on the talk page of the relevant property and ping all the people that participated in the property discussion that lead to the creation of the property and any WikiProjects that are associated with the property. @ChristianKl, Adam Cuerden: I would also support widening the definition of film poster (P3383) --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 09:02, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
  • @Trade: please don't add statements in a constraint violating way as in the example of La Navarraise (Q2709440). If you think the scope of a property should be changed seek consensus for that instead of using it outside of the scope. ChristianKl❫ 08:58, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
