Mastodon address[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Person

Description address on the Mastodon decentralized social network
Represents Mastodon (Q27986619)
Data type External identifier
Domain human (Q5), organization (Q43229)
Allowed values ([a-z0-9_]+(?:@[a-z0-9\.\-]+[a-z0-9]+)?) (source)
Example Jérémie Zimmermann (Q3190732) → jz@mamot.fr
Planned use adding a few identifiers on notable people as they switch to Mastodon
Motivation

This is a fairly new social network which has got some traction recently. I'm not quite sure about the formatter URL. Ideally we could reuse the groups in the regex to translate "jz@mamot.fr" to "http://mamot.fr/@jz", but it does not seem that this functionality is supported by formatter URL (P1630). − Pintoch (talk) 21:57, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Discussion
  • Symbol support vote.svg Support I've heard of this. We should definitely get a formatter URL. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:46, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
Given that the nature of the network is about being decentralized I'm not sure whether a formatter URL is useful. ChristianKl (talk) 18:59, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, I would say that the decentralized nature of the network makes URL (or rather a URI) all the more relevant. − Pintoch (talk) 23:00, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
somehow I wasn't quite paying attention - I can set up a formatter using the wikidata-externalid-url service if/when this property is created. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:12, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

  • I would prefer if this property still has external-id as it's datatype even when we don't have a good formatter url. ChristianKl (talk) 12:04, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

    • Thanks - I updated the wikidata-externalid-url resolver to support this and entered the appropriate formatter URL - it works at least for the example case... ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:31, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
