Fossilworks ID for journal article[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science

Motivation[edit]

We already have Fossilworks taxon ID (P842) for taxons that uses data from Fossilworks (Q796451). here I propose to also link to their information about scientific papers used as references. 99of9

Discussion[edit]

If the author talks about many fossils, you will have many fossilworks Ids for a single article. (Is this what you want?) MargaretRDonald (talk) 04:28, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
@MargaretRDonald: from what I've seen, there's only one ID per article, as shown in the given examples (65044 only refers to A new primitive dinocephalian mammal-like reptile from the Permian of southern Africa (Q77747550)). I do not see in which situation we could have several identifiers per article. Do you have any example? Pamputt (talk) 09:03, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
@Pamputt: If you check out the article on w:Steleopteridae and go to the reference given for Handlirsch 1906 p597 you will see that in that very short note Handlirsch refers to Steleopteridae (the family), the genus Steleopteron and the species Steleopteron Deichmulleri, which by my count gives 3 fossiworks IDs in the article. I am struggling to see the sense of your suggestion. MargaretRDonald (talk) 08:04, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
@MargaretRDonald:, in the example you take, we have
the Fossilworks taxon ID (P842) already exists and is used on the taxon items. Here I propose to create an ID for the scientific papers. In that case, the paper corresponds to the item Q51479357 and I have found only one Fossilworks ID for this paper that is 35209. Pamputt (talk) 10:20, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
