Motivation[edit]

Used for government departments. discussed in telegram with Moebeus. See https://t.me/c/1224298920/51418 So9q (talk) 22:20, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Comment Wouldn't has subsidiary (P355) be good enough? Ainali (talk) 10:24, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Since "department" is used frequently in higher education, and even in corporations, I think either a more specific name or a more general definition is needed here. And if a more general definition, I do agree has subsidiary (P355) generally seems like the right property for this. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:09, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose we already have part of (P361) and parent organization (P749) which is used to model university departments etc (see Stanford University Mathematics Department (Q77247029),Department of Mathematical Sciences (Q30263602) and UCLA Department of Mathematics (Q101024353) among many others). Also I disagree with your modelling that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden (Q776570) is in some sense "a department of" Sweden (Q34), it should be a department / part of Government of Sweden (Q930729). --Hannes Röst (talk) 16:32, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Considering the linked discussion and comments above there seems to be a consensus that the country should not link to the departments to begin with. part of (P361), parent organization (P749), and has subsidiary (P355) is in my opinion enough, that said the proposal is not very clear to me.
