New York City Neighborhood Tabulation area ID[edit]
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Place
Description | The NYC Department of City Planning maintains a public dataset with geographic shapes for neighborhoods in NYC. (NTA aka NYNTA) Each of the neighborhoods in the dataset has a unique identifier of that neighborhood. We have Wikipedia articles on many of those same neighborhoods. The dataset makes some compromises so that shapes meet constraints like no overlapping, no splitting a single USGS census tract into multiple NTAs. |
---|---|
Data type | External identifier |
Domain | items of neighborhood in New York City (Q287414) |
Allowed values | (BK|BX|MN|QN|SI)\d{2} |
Example 1 | New Brighton (Q4822403) → SI22 |
Example 2 | Flushing (Q1058775) → QN22 |
Example 3 | Great Kills (Q5599388) → SI54 |
Example 4 | Port Richmond (Q7230888) → SI28 |
Source | https://data.cityofnewyork.us/dataset/nynta/93vf-i5bz |
Number of IDs in source | ~195 but some of those may not actually be neighborhoods (I think they include shapes for areas like cemeteries?) |
Expected completeness | eventually complete (Q21873974) |
Motivation[edit]
The original inspiration was for use on Wikidata:Translatathon NYC/es but I'm sure there's other uses I'm not thinking of right now. OTOH since they don't map exactly to neighborhoods maybe they shouldn't be linked to the neighborhoods at all? and what about NTAs that contain more than one on wiki neighborhood? should we have a new item for each NTA and then link the NTA items to the existing neighborhood items? - Question Should they not be links? NMaia (talk) 01:14, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- you mean like a formatter URL? I don't know any webpage that displays info on a single nynta at a time. --Jeremyb (talk) 01:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- @ZI Jony: see here? --Jeremyb (talk) 17:49, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

- Question For this part of the regex
(\d{2}|0[1-9])
,\d{2}
"gives" the numbers from 00 to 99 and0[1-9]
"gives" ... the numbers from 00 to 99. No? Keep the first one. Cordially. --Eihel (talk) 18:23, 6 April 2019 (UTC)- No, that's not what
0[1-9]
means. I think wrote the regex a bit too rushed. fixed now I think. --Jeremyb (talk) 15:44, 7 April 2019 (UTC)- I was wrong. I meant from 01 to 09 for 0[1-9]. What I meant was that one of the choices encompasses the other. But I see that you have already made the change. Thank you. --Eihel (talk) 23:07, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

- The number of identifiers is rather low. Initial support --Eihel (talk) 23:12, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Jeremyb: Please fix formatter URL. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 09:52, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- How? see above. --Jeremyb (talk) 17:49, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
