Planned useThis property is intended to note amendments made by this document to another document
Robot and gadget jobsIt would be good if there is a bot able to add the large number of reciprocal links
See alsothe inverse is the property amended by (P2567)
Similar property pair replaces (P1365) / replaced by (P1366)
Similar property pair repeals (P3148) / repealed by (P2568)

Motivation[edit]

I want to create this property as the inverse of amended by (P2567) so there is a reciprocal link between the documents. Each of the examples amends another document, but there is no link back to what it amends. Sometimes it is obvious, like the US constitution example, but others are not always obvious. Discussion[edit]

  •  Comment I can see the reason for this but generally we discourage inverse properties here; one direction is sufficient to encode the full relationship. You can see inverse relationships in the Wikidata UI with a gadget or user script if needed. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:52, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. From a philosophical / design perspective I agree that inverse relationships should not exist - enter the data once, relationship is encoded, job done. It shouldn't matter which end you make the entry. Sadly that is not the way that I understand wikidata has been implemented, where inverse relationships contain an inverse constraint. I have added the relateditems gadget, however this does not show the relationship "amended by" or "repealed by" on items where both exist. It shows up on resonator (eg Q56756439, however that's a visualisation tool & is unable to be edited. Is there some other gadget or user script that will show this?
Fundamentally the problem is that the notability of 1967 Australian referendum (Aboriginals) (Q4825132) and Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 1981 (Q56756439) is that they amend, repeal or replace another document, or in those 2 cases amend and repeal which are treated differently. The data doesn't reflect that, nor is it easily checked or encoded. To put is another way if one direction is sufficient, it is also sufficient to enter it from the other direction - ie you should be able to enter the data as "amends", which includes the information as to the point in time, thus establishing the link to the document that is "amended by". --Find bruce (talk) 23:41, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
