Task/s: Import data of Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) to wikidata.
Code: Based on CeJS library
Function details: Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) is a database of species (Q7432) in Taiwan (Q865), I want to import data of Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) to wikidata. Please see introduction of the TaiBNET(Catalogue of Life in Taiwan)Project to understand the site. --Kanashimi (talk) 02:03, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Kanashimi, could you please be more specific about the planned data import from Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155). Which taxonomic properties are affected? --Succu (talk) 20:10, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- There are several properties we can get from the database, e.g., the Chinese name, taxon synonym (P1420), taxon author (P405), year of publication of scientific name for taxon (P574), parent taxon (P171), instance of (P31)invasive species (Q183368) and sometimes more than them. I will try to import the data into the corresponding species (Q7432). --Kanashimi (talk) 03:30, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't think it's correct to generally state species A b instance of (P31)invasive species (Q183368) because this should be restricted to Taiwan. I think we need another property like endemic to (P183). How do you match an author to an item for taxon author (P405)? Are you planning to generate new items based on the entries in Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155)? --Succu (talk) 14:26, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree the argument of instance of (P31)invasive species (Q183368) and won't import it at this time. About other properties, I try to make an example at Diaphanogryllacris laeta (Q10470501). --Kanashimi (talk) 17:09, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- There are multiple issues with your example:
- You added taxon author (P405) and year of publication of scientific name for taxon (P574) by hand, not by an automated bot process.
- You added a weird title (P1476) = "Property:P405: Walker, F. 1869. Catalogue of the Specimens of Dermaptera Saltatoria in the Collection of the British Museum, London 1:1-224" as a qualifier.
- and gave Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) as the reference. The issues are:
- You misused title (P1476). Your value includes author (P50), publication date (P577), place of publication (P291), volume (P478) and gives number of pages (P1104) and not page(s) (P304). All this properties should be splitted and given as separate values in the references section citing the correct page(s) (P304).
- In 1869 Francis Walker (Q2095814) described Gryllacris laeta (Q26706444). In 2000 the species was transferred to the genus Diaphanogryllacris (Q10470491) (in A.V. Gorochov & A.Ju. Woznessenskij. Species of Diaphanogryllacris from Indochina and adjacent territories (Orthoptera: Stenopelmatidae: Gryllacridinae). Zoosystematica Rossica, 8(2): 257–265).
- I'm sorry, but in this form the addition is unfit. Regards --Succu (talk) 18:47, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu: I'm still planning what to do, so I edit it manually. I think for the case of Diaphanogryllacris laeta (Q10470501), I should create Gryllacris laeta (Q26706444) and Catalogue of the Specimens of Dermaptera Saltatoria in the Collection of the British Museum (Q26706258) so I can recorder the source? It is OK for me to make a bot till now. But I can't know "In 2000 the species..." without the book. If I don't mistake what you say, the citation stated in (P248) Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) (⟨ Diaphanogryllacris laeta (Q10470501) ⟩ Catalogue of Life in Taiwan ID (old version) (P3088) ⟨ 431472 ⟩) is wrong, right? Do you have the book and checked it, or there are other means to know the fact? --Kanashimi (talk) 00:24, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I have seem BHL page ID (P687) 9279934, but I don't have the book Species of Diaphanogryllacris from Indochina and adjacent territories. I think it's hard for a bot to correct the mistake. What I can do is just set the properties get from Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155). Do you have any good idea? --Kanashimi (talk) 01:03, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

- I think a good start would be the import of taxon common name (P1843). This should be easy. Adding references based on a citation needs a lot of preperation and good domain knowledge. --Succu (talk) 18:35, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu: Thank you for your advice. I will import property by property, make sure it's OK. The first will be taxon common name (P1843). --Kanashimi (talk) 10:01, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Are we ready for approval here?--Ymblanter (talk) 07:25, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu, Ymblanter: I think it is OK to go a step further. As mentioned above, I will import property by property with checking, make sure it's OK. --Kanashimi (talk) 10:04, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd like to see some test edits. --Succu (talk) 11:15, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu, Ymblanter: I have do some test edits. Please tell me how about them. --Kanashimi (talk) 05:47, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

- Your edits at Wikidata Sandbox 2 (Q13406268) are looking a bit strange to me. Could you point to a correct one? --Succu (talk) 11:03, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu: Please see here. --Kanashimi (talk) 12:01, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Two remarks: Please add stated in (P248) = Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (Q26218155) as a first line and split multiple names like 星點寬尾鱗魨;星點鱗魨;星點砲彈;寬尾板機魨 in starry triggerfish (Q1903278). --Succu (talk) 12:13, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu: Thank you. You're right. I'll modify the code to apply the points. --Kanashimi (talk) 12:18, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Succu: done --Kanashimi (talk) 15:13, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Looks good to me. @Ymblanter: I think this special task can approved now. --Succu (talk) 19:38, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
