about adding dozens of images to items

Hello, please do not add dozens of images to items like eg. at Q1433149. It makes no sense to add about 80 images to a location item where we already have a link to c:Category:Nowa Huta with hundreds of images. image (P18) should be used for "a relevant illustration", also see note "1" at Property talk:P18. It should not be used for listing all images you can find, or images which are only a little bit related (like adding an image of a random private house to a town item). Wikidata Game, false alarm for many entries in "disambig" mode

Why is this item listed [2] in "disambig" mode, while it says "instance of Wikimedia disambiguation page" on the same? This one seems one of many false alarms. What should I do with these? merge

I am using Special:MergeItems, which seems to work and seems to be the supported mechanism for merging items that have no overlaps. There are lots of duplicate articles in the FA WP, and where a duplicate has attracted a language link, I move it to the already existing one and notify a helpful admin on FA WP of the duplication and he does the magic merge on the FA end and doesn't need to worry about language links, because they are already at the merger target. Lots of work, but 2 people who known both Persian and English can do it. :-) Carlossuarez46 (talk) 04:04, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Need help

I am having a problem adding 'Official website' (P856) to several (Philippine) location pages, for example Q806973. When I try to save it returns an error but the error reason is usually blank. I have done this before successfully. I can also add other properties to the same pages, no problem. How to Get my website information as a Knowledge graph database in Wikidata?

Connecting the same Wikipedia article to two different wikidata entries ?

On my talk page you solicited questions, so here goes:

Wikidata has two different entries, Q2479603 and Q298607 (on topics that are related).

Each has links to the Wikipedia articles in different languages.

However, in Russian there is a just single article that explicitly covers both topics of the wikidata entries.

Currently, only one of the wikidata entries (Q298607) points to the Russian article, so readers of the articles on the other wikidata entry cannot see that there is a coverage of that topic also in Russian (which should be a surprise to the reader, since the topic in question is of Soviet origin).

Is it possible to somehow connect a single Wikipedia article (in Russian) to two wikidata entries?

Recording the instance of an observation of an animal or plant

Constraints on properties

How are constraints on properties set and discussed? An example is that number of participants seems to be supposed to currently occur on an 'event' where that event appears to be defined as temporary or scheduled. A war certainly has participants but is neither temporary or scheduled. How does that sort of thing get rectified and discussed? Actually some more thought lead me to some faulty thinking on my part that a war is temporary, so event can apply to it and it should, somewhere along the path be a subclass of event. Question about data hosting

Hello, we are experimenting with hosting, calibrated, fully processed and ready for public access radio astronomy data on the topic of astro-chemistry. The total data volumn is not large (< 1GB). is this site appropriate for that kind of data?

The data will be released in ascii, with data descriptors following the Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) standard, along with a few python data examination routines.

If this is not a good site for this type of data, please suggest alternatives.

Guang'an (Q427367) and Linshui County (Q1199891)

Hi :) Since you speak Chinese, I was wondering if you could help me with Guang'an (Q427367) and Linshui County (Q1199891).

Another user has removed the statements which say that Linshui County (Q1199891) is part of Guang'an (Q427367). I reverted one of the edits, but they removed it again. I can't find anything which suggests the statements were wrong though - the English page, the German page and Google's translation of the Chinese page all support the statements, even the China division code for Statistics (P442) suggests the statements were correct, but I don't want to revert the edits a second time without asking someone who can understand Chinese better than me first.

First question about Wikidata

Hello Liuxinyu970226, thank you for welcoming me on Wikidata. The first real edit i made in this database was the one in Katharina von Kardorff-Oheimb. In order to complete the list i decided to make changes regarding her husbands of which she had four. So as is put in the years of her marriages and divorces, respectively the death of one them, i got a problem that has not been solved yet, though i don't know how to clean it up. It is about her second husband, named Ernst Albert, who is not that person (the actor and biologist) the link refers to. Unfortunately i'm not that capable to adjust it. Bonjour, lors d'une recherche du terme "Makila", aucune réponse ne m'avait été donnée. J'ai donc voulu créer la page correspondante sur wikidata. Lorsque que j'ai souhaité insérer l'article wikipédia correspondant, impossible, celui-ci était déjà référencé sur une autre page de wikidata (du coup, je ne comprends toujours pas pourquoi je n'ai pas eu de résultat de recherche). Merger needed

Thanks for your "{{subst:welcome|~~~~}}"!

Because the en:Kawasaki Ninja 1000 is the full-faired version of the popular en:Kawasaki Z1000 street naked, the more touring-oriented bike is going by the Kawasaki Z1000S or de:Kawasaki Z1000 SX name in other markets. And because of aforesaid synonymy, ja:Kawasaki Z1000SX redirects to ja:Kawasaki Ninja 1000.

But Wikidata, unaware of this synonymy, was lead to two (three) different items in its database, wikidata:Kawasaki Ninja 1000 (Q6379807) and wikidata:Kawasaki Z1000 SX (Q18249256) (apart from the redirect page wikidata:Kawasaki Z1000 SX (Q17216242)). A merger of this two (three) items fails. It results in an error message as follows:

″Error while "Please wait...": A conflict detected on jawiki: wikidata:Kawasaki Z1000 SX (Q18249256) with ja:Kawasaki Z1000SX, wikidata:Kawasaki Ninja 1000 (Q6379807) with ja:Kawasaki Ninja 1000.″

My interwiki conflict report as of 03:03, 22 June 2016 is unresolved.

1. You have the wrong translation of min-nan. Please correct the source if you were copying these reminders from some templates.
   1. 閩南話 = Min Nan = zh-min-nan = nan
   2. 文言文 = Classical Chinese = zh-classical = lzh
2. I was just adding #Babel template to my user page after coming across Help:Navigating Wikidata/User Options by chance. Before adding, I was cautious enough to read the page again & again, yet I couldn't find a list of all language codes. It would be nice to have such a table to look up. If such table is already there but on another page, please put a link to it in Help:Navigating Wikidata/User Options.

Property P527 (has as part) inverse of P361 (part of)

Hi Liuxinyu970226 I am new to Wikidata & find it fascinating. I find some aspect really easy to use & some perplexing, like this talk page. I hope I use this talk tool correctly.

My question is: If Property P527 (has as part) is the inverse of P361 (part of) then why is it not dynamic? A good database design principle it to avoid duplication as it leads to ambiguity. Would it not be better to have dynamic properties? If you add to item Qa property P361 (part of) Qb, then dynamically on Qb the property P527 (has as part) is added as Qa?

  • @Миша Карелин: Possibly because of Compact Language Links, which currently is a beta feature of enwiki (but afaik enabled for all users on ruwiki), so if you can find that beta feature, just uncheck that thing, if can't see it, add these codes to your Special:Mypage/common.js to disable:

Hallo! Auch wenn in deiner Sprachliste Deutsch nicht ganz oben steht, versuche ich es mal in Deutsch. Da nehme ich dein Angebot auf meiner Diskussionsseite direkt einmal wahr. Danke dafür! Neu bin ich hier allerdings nicht, mein erster Edit liegt vier Jahre zurück. Neue Items hatte ich bisher nicht angelegt. Gestern habe ich nicht aufgepasst und nicht vorher geprüft, ob der Eintrag schon da ist. Es ist ein Eintrag über meine Person. So habe ich dann eher versehentlich den Eintrag angelegt (Q37846640) und musste nur kurz danach feststellen, dass er bereits existierte. Dann habe ich im falschen Forum und später im richtigen Forum um Löschung gebeten. Bei Wikimedia Commons ein eher normaler Vorgang, wenn man mal etwas versehentlich angelegt wurde. Stattdessen wurde eine Weiterleitung eingerichtet und damit die Einträge zusammengelegt. Das ist für mich trotz der Entscheidung, die dem wohl zugrunde liegt, unverständlich. Auch bei Commons löscht man Weiterleitungen eigentlich nicht. Eigentlich. Nur wenn sie gerade angelegt wurden und nicht genutzt werden, macht man dies. Hier werden mit Bezug auf diesem Fall nutzlose Weiterleitungen angelegt statt zu löschen. Mein Englisch ist nicht gut genug, um mich da ausführlich zu verständigen. 关于字形转换的问题

你好！最近在折腾Wikibase的过程中，发现虽然对于实体标签中未填写的语言变种，Wikibase在显示的时候支持字形转换（transliterate），但不论是在搜索框中，或是在Special:ItemDisambiguation中，都无法使用字形转换后的结果。比如，我在测试维基上建立了一个项目：Q111707，仅zh-cn填写标签，在zh-tw界面语言下，能够正确显示繁简转换后的结果。但我无法使用繁体名称在右上角搜索框中搜索此实体。

我的问题是，对于实体标签，我是不是应该手动填写繁体和简体两个版本的标签，哪怕是MW内置的字形转换可以胜任这一转换过程；或者Wikibase在后期建设中将会考虑支持带字形转换的搜索功能？谢谢！

p.s. 主要是我实在不确定该去哪里问这种问题了……感觉放到phab上应该也不会有太多人管的……

Flags with country name and flags with IOC country code

Hello Liuxinyu970226, in January last year you labeled quite a number of templates used to show a flag and somtehing else as duplicates of other templates used to show the same flag and something else (here's an example). Now the essence here is that the "something else" is someting different in both cases. The most common template (common in the sence that most language versions use it) shows the flag with the name of the country next to it. The less common template is used to show the flag and the IOC country code. The latter template is of course used in connection with sports, where the IOC code is wanted, not the full name of the country. Probably confusing for you was that the zh-template for the flag and country name was in several cases erroneously linked to the flag and IOC code.

I hope I made it clear to you now that these templates are NOT duplicates but serve a very different goal. I am in the process of removing the labels you added, and I am confident that you will not replace them after you read my explanation. Cheers, Wikiklaas (talk) 17:53, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

The real problem, so it appears, and the reason why a Chinese editor got so involved, is on the Chinese Wikipedia. As an example: there you have Template:ESA and Template:SLV, doing exactly the same thing: displaying the El Salvador flag with the full name of the country next to it. They should in fact both be linked to item Q8115563, which is of course impossible. But that does not mean that one of them can be linked to another item (Q8793756), because that other item represents templates with a different content. The solution to this "problem" is not to add labels to the Wikidata items, stating they are duplicates, but to merge the duplicate templates in zh-wiki. I can't do that because my knowledge of Chinese is very limited, but I guess you could merge the templates on your home wiki, asking a bot to replace the redirects afterwards. Of course it would not be suitable in Hungarian and in Dutch to merge these templates: in those languages the two templates have totally different goals, while in Chinese they serve only one goal: to display the country flag and the country name; in Hungarian and in Dutch those two different templates serve two different goals: one displays the flag and the country name, the other one displays the flag and the IOC country code, which is something very different. I have no idea how someone on the Chinese Wikipedia could have thought this was the same, and in fact suggested to merge the templates. I have no idea either why some people choose to use a certain name for a template. But on Wikidata we do not link items based on their names, but based on the content. It doesn't matter much that Anas platyrhynchos is called Mallard in English, and 绿头鸭 in Chinese; the articles are linked in one Wikidata item because they represent the same species and thus the same content. @GZWDer: for wikibaselexeme-lemma-edit-placeholder, are you really sure it must be "词语"? That can also apply to one character e.g. Γ, Ж, の... just if they're registered as lemma, so I would keep "字词" here.

The reason why I say "发音变体" instead of just "变体" is that the later one is used in many different cases, e.g. transubstantiation (Q214500) (otherwise why we have zhwiki "变体" as Wikimedia disambiguation page (Q4167410))?

For lemma, please see w:lemma (morphology). for example for "lie", "lay", "lain" and "lying", "lie" is the lemma, the others are not. wikibaselexeme-no-features can not be interpeted literally. It is a placeholder of grammatical features if no grammatical features exist. It is only used to generate a description in suggestion box. Example:

Hello - I saw your earlier opposition to Wikidata:Property proposal/Jyutping. But I note that Hanyu Pinyin transliteration (P1721), Tibetan pinyin (P4188), IPA transcription (P898) (and subproperties) etc have all got their own properties.
