- There are some discussion about the use of imported from Wikimedia project (P143) which was created before the definition of guidelines for sourcing. Better find a way to import data AND their sources from zh.wikipedia. I know this is not easy from programming point of view, but we can't source data in wikipedia with wikipedia as source. I can't force you to stop using imported from Wikimedia project (P143) right now but this will come soon, see Wikidata:Requests for comment/Sourcing requirements for bots. And just as advice statements like P107 (P107) or "instance of" do not need source: this are arbitrary or obivious definitions in most cases. Snipre (talk) 14:23, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

- Although I strongly support sourcing requirements for bots, I think it's ok to import Wikipedia data when that data is so basic that no source is needed. Clearly, some of Liangent-bot's statements can reasonably be considered to belong to this category. But I'm concerned about the bot's work on items like Q13987278. It's very odd to create items with no Wikipedia link and then add statements that cite Wikipedia as the origin of the statement. Pichpich (talk) 19:10, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- Snipre: You are wrong here. Not all statements have to be sourced but bots have to state where they got their information from so we can track this later. If the data added by this bot is from a wikipedia page linked to the wikidata page then the source datafield should say that. In this case there are no sitelinks so the bot needs to give more info to let us know where the data came from - such as the 'page' property as a qualifier to imported from. Creating items with no sitelinks[edit]
Wikidata notability says that to create items with no sitelinks to wikipedia articles there should be a need for these for other purposes. None of the many items you have created for chinese places seem to meet these requirements.
Can you add sitelinks to these or merge them with existing items which deal with these places?

Type of administrative division[edit]
Hi. Does the database you are working from give the type of administrative division (village/district/region/province etc.) for each of these items? Even if there are not items for each type of admin division in China yet it would be worth creating these so the items can be classified in this way.
Would it be possible for your bot to generate a transliteration into the roman alphabet for each of these units and put it as the English label, or even just as an English alias? Filceolaire (talk) 21:08, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response on my page.
- On the transliteration: If 'cun' is an official name for a type of administrative unit then it may well be appropriate to use it in English labels, just as English Wikipedia uses (for example) 'raion' for admin units in the ex Soviet states and 'commune' for admin units in French speaking countries, even though they are not English names. Remember that in English, 'village' is generally used for small settlements which are not administrative divisions. (Where they are used as admin units in England they are usually called 'parishes' or 'towns'). With aliases we can of course use both 'cun' and 'village'.
- This not to say there shouldn't be some discussion; rather to say that there can be more than one right answer and we don't need to get to hung up on getting all the answers first time.

- If there is a well established usage amongst English speakers (this probably means English language newspapers in Hong Kong) then that would be the route to follow. From the examples you give the precedent would seem to be the village name without 'village' or 'cun' though I think adding both of these in aliases could be useful. What is the practice among chinese speakers when they mention a village? Do they include 'cun' in the name the way Americans tend to include the name of the state? - @Succu: All cases above (include those which happened one year ago) look like bugzilla:67791#c5, where there're two wbeditentity calls with clear set (see edit summary), but the second failed to clear the entity. China administrative divisions[edit]
Hi Liangent. Is it possible to add instance of (P31) and probably P132 (P132) to all items with China administrative division code (P442)? And to remove P107 (P107)? - @Pasleim: See en:Administrative division codes of the People's Republic of China (it's not very complete though)? There'll still be some ambiguity if we use that article only (and that GB/T), and I think it's possible parse division names to eliminate that ambiguity.
- I tried to run the bot myself in the past, so I prepared User:Liangent-bot/prcadmin (also not very complete), but a few ToolLab bugs prevent my bot running on Wikidata (and I don't bother to try hard to workaround it because it's their bug :/ ). Liangent (talk) 09:58, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Bot watchlist size[edit]
Regarding Liangent-bot: Hey there. Looks like your bot's watchlist has grown to a very large size, and our website's database administrators are interested in wiping the watchlist to save space. 1) Do they have your permission to do this? You can post a quick statement of permission in this Phabricator thread, or ping me and I'll tell them. 2) If your bot doesn't need to use its watchlist, can you look into making your bot not watchlist pages? This may involve logging into your bot's account, going to preferences, going to the watchlist sub-tab, and unticking a setting such as "Add pages I create and files I upload to my watchlist".
