St Louis Rams

You merged two items that are not the same. Why? Thanks, GerardM (talk) 06:06, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GerardM: I cannot find any evidence that there are or were two different teams called the Los Angeles Rams. See, for example, en:History of the Los Angeles Rams. Also, there was and is no information on Los Angeles Rams (Q18574062) suggesting they aren't the same team. I must be missing something. Can you please explain why you think they're different entities? Thanks, Bovlb (talk) 21:58, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You do not get it. The St Louis Rams are not the Los Angeles Rams. That only happened later. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 04:17, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GerardM: Thanks for following up. I'm afraid I still can't make out what point you're making. Are you (a) saying that there was a distinct team by that name (apparently not mentioned in the relevant Wikipedia article); or (b) are you suggesting that a sports franchise becomes a new entity whenever they change their name? Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 15:20, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
People who were playing in St Louis are in a separate category. It figures that people understand it to be destinct. When a club "moves" a franchise it has been sold and it is distinctly different as a consequence. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 05:23, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mask

What is meant to be the difference between mask (Q161524) and mask (Q26699961)?--Pharos (talk) 21:33, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@pharos: Sorry to be slow to respond. mask (Q26699961) is a more general class that encompasses both mask (Q161524) and protective face mask (Q26699965) and distinguishes between the disguise and protection aspects. This query shows how some of the subclasses distribute between the two. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 02:28, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oksana Mysina

Hello. You're not right. She was born in the USSR, the citizenship of the USSR was until 1991, Russian citizenship — after 1991. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union 1922–1991) 5.248.39.240 16:50, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@5.248.39.240: You removed and added the claim that she is a citizen of Russia. I merely restored the reference to the Russian Wikipedia as a source. On ru:Мысина,_Оксана_Анатольевна it says her citizenship is "USSR → Russia", which seems consistent with saying she now has Russian citizenship. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 17:11, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AAP

You were right: anti-abortion was wrong. Anti-LGBT is correct and I adjusted accordingly. Thanks, 107.77.236.41 14:47, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!

English | español | français | Nederlands | русский | +/−

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

You have your gun; now here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat, Wikidata:Requests for comment, and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-admin @ irc.freenode.net. If you need access, you can flag someone down at @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Wikidata:Guide to Adminship to be useful reading. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (Check Wikipedia:Wikidata/Wikidatans (Q14964498).)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

Reverted edits on one thousand million(US) and one million million(UK)

Hello.

I see that you reverted my edits, can you explain?

1 billion is known as one million million in the UK, and one thousand million in the US. I edited it to clarify which country aligned with the phrase. Thank you!

Quantumized Hi! Welcome to Wikidata and thanks for following up with me. Please accept my apologies for reverting your first contribution with no explanation. I reverted your change because I decided the previous description was better for several reasons:
  • As discussed on en:billion, it is not a clear-cut, neutral, and non-controversial claim to say that current UK usage favours the long scale.
  • It seems to me to be biased to call out the usage of two specific countries (US and UK) when there are other countries where this is an issue.
  • Your description was poorly-formatted because it lacked a space before open brackets (parentheses), and redundantly mentions both "1000 million" and "one thousand million".
  • The description was already over-long, and your change made it even longer.
And just a note that you can sign your contributions to talk pages like this one by adding four tildes (~~~~).

Chicagoland

Hi, I'm not sure in what capacity you think a metropolitan area is administrative. It's simply a geographical area. - Bossanoven (talk) 07:43, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bossanoven Thanks for following up. How do you want to handle this chain?
Chicago metropolitan area (Q1754965)metropolitan statistical area (Q1768043)metropolitan area (Q1907114)administrative territorial entity (Q56061)
Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 15:10, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, assuming you are correct that Chicagoland is not administrative, then the most appropriate property would seem to be location (P276) not part of (P361). Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 15:24, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Location seems most fitting. Statistical areas are not intrinsically administrative. - Bossanoven (talk) 21:39, 10 September 2018 (UTC) The administrative entity, in the United States, would be the county. - Bossanoven (talk) 21:42, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bossanoven Thanks for responding. What do you plan to do about the fact that Chicagoland is (indirectly) asserted to be administrative? Bovlb (talk) 22:57, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the class of administrative territorial entity (Q56061) from metropolitan area (Q1907114) since it is not all-entailing. Thanks for pointing that out. - Bossanoven (talk) 12:58, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P2580

Hi Bovlb, would you semi-protect the property and its talk page? At least until the user is deblocked or otherwise taken care of? BTW, there is a discussion about the format change on the property talk page. --- Jura 20:45, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jura1 I read the discussion, and also http://www.bbl-digital.de/web/aktuell and http://www.bbl-digital.de/web/isni . I understand the desire to retain pre-ISNI identifiers, but I'm afraid I'm still a little in the dark about why you're making the changes you are. Could you provide a little more explanation, please? Bovlb (talk) 20:57, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The IP is likely a user that was blocked from editing Wikidata. If we restore their edits, we help them evade that block. --- Jura 20:59, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jura1 I don't want to help anyone evade a block, but I also don't see why we would want to change (apparently) correct claims into (apparently) wrong ones. Bovlb (talk) 21:11, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we don't have a property for the current scheme other than ISNI and personally, I don't second guess the block on every edit. Can you block the IP as well? --- Jura 21:19, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jura1 I'm sorry to be difficult, but before I block or protect, I'd still like to get an answer to my original question: For Clayhills (Q4223197), what makes you believe that the correct value for P2580 (P2580) is "clayhills" and not "Clayhills". This seems to me to be an issue entirely unrelated to the ISNI conversion. Thanks, Bovlb (talk) 21:32, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The user isn't allowed to edit Wikidata. There is no reason double check their edits. As they borked hundreds of items, it would be waste of time. If other editors want to edit an item, they are free to do so. --- Jura 21:36, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jura1 I'm afraid I'm being rather dense today, as I'm still having trouble following. If I understand you correctly, you are saying that you have somehow (?) concluded that this IP user is some (?) blocked user evading their block, and we are therefore obliged to revert all of their changes, even if this involves replacing correct claims with false ones. Could you please fill in the gaps for me here? Thanks, Bovlb (talk) 00:37, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We don't know if the edit is correct as the property is for the old scheme. It's an opinion share by other about IPs editing around there: Special:Contributions/77.180.8.47. --- Jura 05:05, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata: Rosa Pomeranz (Q59212844)

Would you please be kind enough to delete this. It is a variant of Roza Pomerantz-Meltzer (Q7375308).--Ipigott (talk) 15:02, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ipigott: Where items have significant history (and therefore may be linked to from elsewhere), the usual practice is to merge rather than delete, which I have done. Bovlb (talk) 02:15, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's just that I would never have created it in the first place if I had known there was already an entry on Pomerantz-Meltzer. I would simply have entered the alternative spellings. But everything looks fine now and Q59212844 no longer exists.--Ipigott (talk) 08:17, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article rename

Hi @Bovlb: I've been trying (but not been able to) figure out how to request for an item to be renamed on Wikidata. I wish to have the item Yaa Naa Bukali I (Q61424571) renamed to Yaa Naa Bukali II. Thanks! —M@sssly 20:53, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Masssly:. In Wikidata, the name of an item is fixed and language-independent; in this case, it is "Q61424571". The labels can easily be changed, however, as described in Help:Items#Editing_an_item_page. I have gone ahead and made the change for you. I note that there is an open merge proposal for en:Yaa_Naa_Bukali_II and en:Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 21:44, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.—M@sssly 22:35, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
