Babel[edit]

Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. With the same language codes you can add links to your userpage on Wikipedia e.g. de:User:User123. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:13, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Strange merge[edit]

Hi,

Could you please take a look at Parly (Q208394), where you did this strange merge Special:Diff/1028997984? It seems to be 2 differents places, one in France and the other in Russia.

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 08:29, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • The same message about Drouilly (Q1224511). That's wrong Special:Diff/1029229727 merge too. After merging one of commune of France (Q484170) are located both in France and Russia and located in russian and french located in the administrative territorial entity (P131), got wrong coordinates and many other wrong statements. If You need to move page of Chechen Wikipedia You should do in this way: At the bottom of the page with a list of articles in different language sections of Wikipedia. To the right of this label is the edit (move) function. Click on it. Functions with a list of language sections and articles will become active. In this case, you need to go to the Chechen one (marked as ce in the very left column), click on the green arrow, in the dialog box indicate the element to which you want to transfer the article, then click move. Can you correct your previous wrong merges? --Ksc~ruwiki (talk) 18:28, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They were connected using a bot. I think there are not many such errors. --Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 05:36, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you need help in searching and correction of these errors? --Ksc~ruwiki (talk) 17:04, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ksc~ruwiki. How do you find erroneously related articles? --Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 10:38, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Some of them by deviations of properties. I'm not sure I found all of them but many I can correct. It's not difficult for me. --Ksc~ruwiki (talk) 10:42, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[WMF Board of Trustees - Call for feedback: Community Board seats] Meetings with the Wikidata community[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is organizing a call for feedback about community selection processes between February 1 and March 14. While the Wikimedia Foundation and the movement have grown about five times in the past ten years, the Board’s structure and processes have remained basically the same. As the Board is designed today, we have a problem of capacity, performance, and lack of representation of the movement’s diversity. Our current processes to select individual volunteer and affiliate seats have some limitations. Direct elections tend to favor candidates from the leading language communities, regardless of how relevant their skills and experience might be in serving as a Board member, or contributing to the ability of the Board to perform its specific responsibilities. It is also a fact that the current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Western Europe. In the upcoming months, we need to renew three community seats and appoint three more community members in the new seats. This call for feedback is to see what processes can we all collaboratively design to promote and choose candidates that represent our movement and are prepared with the experience, skills, and insight to perform as trustees?

In this regard, two rounds of feedback meetings are being hosted to collect feedback from the Wikidata community. Two rounds are being hosted with the same agenda, to accomodate people from various time zones across the globe. We will be discussing ideas proposed by the Board and the community to address the above mentioned problems. Please sign-up according to whatever is most comfortable to you. You are welcome to participate in both as well!

Also, please share this with other volunteers who might be interested in this. Let me know if you have any questions. KCVelaga (WMF), 14:33, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sleeping for 10 seconds[edit]

This is a default setting in pywikibot, to make only 1 edit per 10 seconds. You can edit the config, and put this down to 0 sec, then there will be no delay, and then it might make 2/3 edits per seconds in total. I found some more slight issues with the script, it stopped with an error on the Turkish title of a certain page (containing wrong characters). With an extra try/except I hope this will make the script bypass the value. If this works I will update the script too in PAWS, so you can also use the updated script. As we speak the bot has no new output yet. Could be still going to the next item to be changed, or it stopped again with an error, tonight I will know, today I'm in the office. Edoderoo (talk) 10:45, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bot worked when I changed "error" → "OSError". Thanks. You really need the script.--Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 12:10, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You better remove the line with error ... I used this to process just one record and check the results manually... Error is not a known command, and triggers the code to stop completely. Now this works, we don't need it anymore. Edoderoo (talk) 13:00, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Edoderoo, thanks! If there is a modified code, save on me on the page. --Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 20:44, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the script has now run succesfully for both categories? Edoderoo (talk) 14:46, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Edoderoo I work in "Cat1 =", but I like the script (so checked).
One question, can I add such a code? For example, so that he also associates with articles from English Wikipedia.
::ceSite=pywikibot.Site('ce','wikipedia')
::trSite=pywikibot.Site('tr','wikipedia')
::enSite=pywikibot.Site('en','wikipedia')
::searchfor1='[[tr:'
::searchfor2='[[en:'
::
Although it is not so important for me, I am satisfied with the script. Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 02:42, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can. You can also replace the tr with en and run the script again. Edoderoo (talk) 06:20, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hi Edoderoo I do not understand because of what Bot misses some articles. If there is a time to look please. For example, this. Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 22:59, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Began imports from Turkish category. Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 02:14, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The script works this way:
  1. Read the ce-article
  2. Find the link to [[tr:
  3. Read the tr-article
  4. looks up the tr-wikidata item connected
  5. add the ce-link to the wikidata item
  6. remove the tr-link from the ce-article
If any of the above steps fail, it will not go to the next step. Your link example above was missing a wikidata (step 4) item on tr-wiki until yesterday. Right now I have manually provided the link, but a rerun of the script would have done so too today. If more wikidata items are missing on tr-wiki (which can easily be true), then PetScan might be a help in first creating those items. Edoderoo (talk) 06:15, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate entries for villages in Hadim[edit]

Hello, I see you've created duplicate entries for villages in Hadim; for example you've added Elmaağaç (Q109962195) for trwiki link but your Umarbot added cewiki link to already existing Elmaağaç (Q10758307). I haven't used quickstatements myself yet because I got the impression adding data manually is less error prone and existing WD editing tools seem to be much more complicated than good old SQL ;) ... --Katpatuka (talk) 09:38, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hi Katpatuka It remains to tie 820 articles. Tie with the help of the bot fails. Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 12:27, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
820 ? Wow! :) Actually there's a MERGE statement described at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:QuickStatements#Item_merging but IMHO it needs to be done manually - how else would one get the two Qsource and Qdestination items?! --Katpatuka (talk) 12:41, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Katpatuka 820 is a problem in Chechen Wikipedia . With the help of PetScan, I imported a 2000 article from Turkish Wikipedia here and I need to deal with them. They must be associated with Vietnamese and Chechen Wikipedia. Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 13:45, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck ;) - I'm mapping on OSM (openstreetmap) and tie villages and suburbs adding tags for wikipedia articles and wikidata items on OSM as well as adding missing items like country (P17), located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) and coordinate location (P625) on wikidata. Some places haven't set a corresponding item in WD but luckily most often an already existing item from viwiki does exist to which I can connect. Another common problem in Turkey is the renaming or different writing of village names from official side. --Katpatuka (talk) 14:16, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
