Procedure:
- Check that existing item(s) for the other homonym(s) do not already exist
- If the Wikidata item is linked to conflated homonyms, check the "original" intended meaning of the Wikidata item by viewing the item history
- Find a source that documents the homonymy (not necessary for hemihomonyms)
- Create new item for the homonym
- Label for the junior homonym should include taxon name authorship to disambiguate the label, with the canonical name as an alias
- Transfer sitelinks and statements if necessary with the statement Move/Copy tool
- Link the homonym items to each other with different from (P1889) statements; clarify type of homonymy with the qualifier object of statement has role (P3831)
- Other aggregators like GBIF may also have conflated the homonyms. Report those cases and link to tracking tickets here.
