I'm Derek Moore (Q132200769) (I tend to experiment with my personal data first). I choose to make my footprints both visible and persistent. Wikidata itself is still a relatively new environment for me and I am experimenting on the platform, I am grateful to the many people who have created resources and tutorials permitted me to find my way around.
Understand the concept(s)
Set up an account & add identifiers
Is there an existing entry for a thesis you have supervised / supported?
If not, create new thesis statements and identifiers.
Wikidata is a “free and open knowledge base containing multilingual data that can be read, edited, and re-used by humans and machines, supporting global access to information”
The platform is used to create “a free, collaborative, multilingual, secondary database, collecting structured data to provide support for Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, the other Wikimedia projects, and well beyond that.” [1]
Since its inception in 2012, Wikidata has become the central data store for all Wikimedia projects. People will need to experience Wikidata's data structures, understand their guidelines for contributing, and editing. A good place to start could be personal Wikidata, using the sandbox.
Academics and teachers may experiment with the process of adding statements and identifiers, perhaps to do with their teaching or students research. Going through this learning process together with a meetup, will make it easier to explain to students.[2]
Here in Africa, I am looking to interview fellow explorers.
