I am David Zurabovich Osipov, usually known as David Osipov.

I'm a product manager by profession, but I'm driven by a much larger mission: to untangle the vast, messy web of human knowledge. My goal is to help architect a future where information is not siloed, but interconnected in structured data graphs that are easily accessed and understood by both people and machines.

This mission began with a simple, real-world problem: delivery couriers couldn't find my home in Tbilisi because the digital maps were incomplete. That small frustration sparked a much larger project. Now, I architect a deliberate data pipeline: photos I capture for Commons feed items here on Wikidata, which in turn provide the structured backbone for rich articles on Wikipedia, for OpenStreetMap and Yandex Maps. It's a system designed to create a self-reinforcing loop of verifiable knowledge.

To do this work at scale and with high accuracy, I heavily leverage AI as a force multiplier. Through repeated practical use, I've developed advanced prompting techniques, learning the distinct strengths, weaknesses, and pitfalls of various models. This allows me to use AI to generate structured microdata, filter facts, and meticulously fact-check claims against sources—all while working to minimize hallucinations. For me, AI is not a replacement for human curation, but a powerful tool to accelerate the creation of high-quality, verified, and linked data.

My Work in Action

[edit]

Here are some of the main projects where I put this philosophy into practice:

The numerical figures below reproduce an earlier self-reported snapshot from this page. They are historical, not current statistics. The original measurement date and methodology have not been established for this revision.

  • OpenStreetMap: In that earlier snapshot, I reported over 43,000 edits and a place among the top 15 most active contributors in Georgia. My mapping work focuses on turning incomplete neighbourhood maps into accurately mapped communities.
  • Mapillary: The same earlier snapshot recorded over 103,500 contributed images across 470 km, building street-level visual ground truth for other mappers.
  • Wikimedia & The Semantic Web: Beyond Wikidata, I build and improve articles on the English and Russian Wikipedias, contribute media to Commons, and add structured data to MusicBrainz. Each contribution is a node in a larger knowledge graph.

If you see an opportunity to collaborate or have questions about my work, feel free to leave a message on my talk page.
