Template:PAGENAME
Appearance
PAGENAME
| Please use {{PAGENAME:page name}} rather than {{PAGENAME|page name}}, with a (":"), not a pipe symbol ("|"). This uses the magic word directly instead of using the template as the magic word. |
| This template is used on many pages, and changes to it will be widely noticed. Please test any changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in a user subpage, and consider discussing changes at the talk page before implementing them. |
Usage
[edit]{{PAGENAME}} is not actually a template, but instead is a magic word, meaning it is a MediaWiki featured software. When used, it will return the name of the page it's on, but without the namespace. For example, when placed on this page, it returns PAGENAME. When placed on Wikipedia:Village pump will return 'Village pump'. When {{PAGENAME|Wikipedia:Village pump}} is used, this template changes it to the correct {{PAGENAME:Wikipedia:Village pump}} then this hidden category Category:Pages which use a template in place of a magic word will appear but as a hidden category.
