Science and non-science
The humanities are not a type of science. It is a type of w:Wissenschaft, but that's better translated as "knowledge-generating" instead of "science". Even when similar methods are used, the humanities are not progressive in the way that sciences are supposed to be. (For example, it is impossible for modern scholars to know more about the meaning of Greek play than the original author or the original audience, whereas modern physicists know quite a lot more about gravity than the first humans observe its effects, or even physicists studying the phenomenon a couple of decades ago.) The humanities deal with wisdom and meaning, rather than mere facts.
I have therefore removed the claim that the humanities are "science" and substituted the correct, and more general, statement that they are a legitimate area of scholarly knowledge. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:41, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
