Difference with Q8201[edit]

@Okkn: This item seems to be a duplicate of sinograms (Q8201). However, it might be a good idea to use this item for Chinese characters that are used for the Chinese language and sinograms (Q8201) for Han characters that are used by countries in the east Asian cultural sphere. What do you think? KevinUp (talk) 23:31, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@KevinUp: sinograms (Q8201) is a writing system (Q8192), while sinogram (Q53764738) is a character (Q3241972) or sign (Q3695082). This relation is similar to that between Latin script (Q8229) and Latin-script letter (Q19776628) (for example, A (Q9659) is an instance of Latin-script letter (Q19776628)). Each specific Han characters, such as "一" and "漢", are not writing systems, but characters (letters), so in ontology, we have to distinguish them. --Okkn (talk) 03:16, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okkn: I see. The description of both items were a bit inaccurate, as they only referred to Chinese and Japanese, so I updated the description to use the term "Sinosphere" instead. Thanks for the explanation! I learnt something new today. KevinUp (talk) 06:18, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. --Okkn (talk) 08:18, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
