Merge[edit]
@Circeus: FYI it is 2 different words in Swedish so a merge feels wrong. See WhatLinkshere and check with the sources - Salgo60 (talk) 11:34, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
- I did, and I saw so many scientists that are literal botanists in the generally acknowledged sense (Andersson, Fries, Afzelius, Adlerz, Skottsberg...) with none of them ever using both "botanist" and "botany" (which should be the case if they truly are different job titles) that I fail to see how they can be described as different.
- Looking at the history of the page, the original description seems to have been translatable as (Google translate, apologies if it is wildly inaccurate) "Someone who practices botany as a hobby", which, well... makes them botanists by definition if they practiced it enough for it to be noted on Wikidata! Some of them are better known for other specialties even and probably shouldn't have "botany" listed anyway (i.e. botanical collector (Q59198477) and paleobotanist (Q30059961) for Halle). - If you look at the sources it is based on Dictionary of Swedish National Biography ID (P3217) the national archive of Sweden. As Wikidata is open Free knowledge that everyone can change I feel a good practise is to follow what they state ==> it gives more trust for the reader in what we say. If you have other sources please add them.
- Adam Afzelius (Q347903) -> SBL 5578 botanist
- Carl Axel Magnus Lindman (Q719778) -> SBL 10613 botanist

Suggestion @Circeus: next time use said to be the same as (P460) instead of merge and start communicate please - Salgo60 (talk) 12:01, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Circeus: I agree with Salgo60. It is useful to be able to distinguish between people doing it is a hobby rather than as an occupation. I suggest we unmerge this and makes the differnces clear in the statements too. Ainali (talk) 12:30, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
