number of aliasses limitation[edit]

Hi! en:Wikipedia:Categorization lists as "Shortcuts:"

WP:CAT|WP:CATEGORY|WP:CG|WP:MOSCAT

It is not possible for me to add these aliases to the English alias list. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 23:47, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Subclass[edit]

I have create MediaWiki page (Q15474042) to be the base type of all MediaWiki pages. However I can't change the subclass of this item from Wikimedia project page (Q14204246) to MediaWiki page (Q15474042); Wikidata reports a technical difficulty. John Vandenberg (talk) 13:34, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia project page (Q14204246) is at this time a subclass of MediaWiki page (Q15474042). Greetings, Conny (talk) 16:15, 30 December 2013 (UTC).[reply]

P279 on Wikimedia Category pages[edit]

As of 2014-07-10 692 unrooted subclasses are instance of Wikimedia category (Q4167836)

  • WDQ: claim[279] and noclaim[279:(tree[35120][][279])] and claim[31:4167836] [1].

Unrooted subclasses (claim[279] and noclaim[279:(tree[35120][][279])]) cause constraint violations for subclass of (P279).

Will the whole classification tree of non-Wikimedia Category items be duplicated with Wikimedia Category items? Tamawashi (talk) 18:10, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tamawashi: wtf do you call an unrooted subclass ???? I don't get you. TomT0m (talk) 20:05, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@TomT0m: The WDQ is stated above. The term is also listed at Wikidata:Item classification#Wikidata queries. Tamawashi (talk) 20:08, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Tamawashi: I don't see why introduce new term, I don't think they are useful and confusing ... unrooted entities in your définition have a root, it's just not entity. TomT0m (talk) 20:13, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@TomT0m: please bring this up on Wikidata_talk:Item classification. Word was used by User:Emw and I took it. Tamawashi (talk) 20:16, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Descriptions[edit]

I restored the descriptions. Not sure why they were removed.

I did the same earlier. @Abc82: care to explain your actions? Multichill (talk) 15:11, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. -- Abc82 (talk) 15:23, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translation in Bulgarian for Wikiversity[edit]

According to this answer at Wikiversity, the Category: can be translated to Категория: here. How would that work for a project in an incubator? Best regards, --Лорд Бъмбъри (talk) 10:54, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What "Category:" do you want to have translated? And why? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 08:42, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Matěj Suchánek, in English I'd write Category:History of Spain. In Bulgarian I wish to write Категория:History of Spain. Where to translate that? --Лорд Бъмбъри (talk) 11:33, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Still don't get it, sorry. Where do you want to write the localized text and cannot? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 11:43, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I want to write the localized text when I want to add a page to a category. --Лорд Бъмбъри (talk) 21:37, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You're probably talking about the name of the category namespace on the Bulgarian Wikiversity that doesn't exist yet. This has nothing to do with Wikidata. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 21:47, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What about to add logos, too? example --Daniele Pugliesi (WMIT) (talk) 01:46, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Logos belong to items that represent things, not Wikimedia categories. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:58, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know it. Thank you! --Daniele Pugliesi (WMIT) (talk) 02:09, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Usage[edit]

Should this be used if it's not necessary? I believe Category:World Showcase (Q13307652) could be merged into World Showcase (Q73192712), or should they remain seperate? Thanks! U+1F360 (talk) 16:27, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@U+1F360: Category items should remain separates of the main item, in general. Technically it’s impossible to merge two items that have two pages on the same wiki in any case. author  TomT0m / talk page 17:16, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What is a Wikimedia category[edit]

What is a Wikimedia category? What website should I go to to browse through them? I recently encountered a faulty edit involving Category:November 11 births (Q9229405) and had no idea how to find the category and remove Vlad the Impaler (Q43715) from the category. Jc3s5h (talk) 11:31, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jc3s5h: if you are about this import , the source is indicated: Belarusian (Taraškievica) Wikipedia (Q8937989) (specifically, be-x-old:Катэгорыя:Нарадзіліся 11 лістапада). So obviously we should go to be-x-old:Улад III Цэпэш to change this. --Infovarius (talk) 15:17, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to be a case where one Wikipedia decided to assign a definite birth date, and not provide a citation, and to put the subject of the article in a category. But the article is not credible, due to the absence of a citation, so Wikidata should ignore that birthdate and category. Jc3s5h (talk) 16:02, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image restriction[edit]

It's okay for most cases, but, for Wikimedia Commons category maybe not so much, categories as interior of buildings, i.e., should have an image relate to the category. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton (talk) 07:24, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Image : potential issues (conflicts-with constraint)[edit]

I would have a photo in wikinews Catégorie:Prix du gaz, but putting the photo on wikidata Category:Natural gas prices P18 Image, it sends an error message: "! conflicts-with constraint. An entity should not have a statement for image if it also has a statement for instance of with value Wikimedia category", despite it does display the photo on wikinews Catégorie:Prix du gaz. Question: can I, despite the error, leave it like that ? Topelie (talk) 23:01, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Topelie: The image belongs to the topic item natural gas prices (Q6980694). I moved the statement for you. Dexxor (talk) 05:47, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
