A device or medium for storing and retrieving information. The oldest storage medium is paper, on which the largest amount of information is stored today. Magnetic, optoelectric or other memory media are used in computer technology. The most important characteristics of memory are recall time and memory capacity. The memory with which the computer immediately works is called the operational memory; the computer temporarily or permanently stores information on hard or disk memory. (English)
Zařízení či médium pro uložení a zpětné vyhledání informací. Nejstarším paměťovým médiem je papír, na němž je dnes uloženo největší množství informací. Ve výpočetní technice se používají magnetická, optoelektrická či jiná paměťová média. Nejdůležitějšími charakteristikami paměti jsou vybavovací doba a kapacita paměti. Paměť s níž počítač bezprostředně pracuje se nazývá paměť operační; dočasně či trvale ukládá počítač informace na pevnou či diskovou paměť. (Czech)
