Amherstburg (Ont.)
Fort Malden, later Fort Amherstburg was established 1796. A townsite was also laid out. The fort was garrisoned until 1851 and occupied until 1859. The town of Amhertsburg was separated from the township of Malden in 1851 and incorporated in 1878. Jan. 1, 1998, the townships of Anderdon and Malden became part of the town of Amherstburg.
