Some notes about this property
- The regular expression given for this property is meant to match codes from the 1991 census, the "Permanent" Location Code Number scheme used in the 2001 census, and the revised Metadata and Data Standards version used in the 2011 census. (I am not entirely sure how the codes from before 1991 worked, nor whether the regular expression can be simplified further; if you know either of these things, please let me know.)
- Within the various district census handbooks, the formats for the codes are represented inconsistently: some present all higher-level values together (as in state code+district code+subdistrict code+village code), while some only present the relevant value (as in just the state/district/subdistrict/village code). For censuses prior to 2011, the concatenation of higher-level values is appropriate as, for example, two villages/subdistricts/districts in two different states may have the same village/subdistrict/district number. Every administrative territorial entity in India has a unique 2011 census code, however, determined by the number of digits in said code (2 for states, 3 for districts, 4 for subdistricts, and 6 for villages), so they should be noted without the aforementioned concatenation.
