lexeme requires language constraint (Q55819106) specifies that lexemes with a certain property must be in a certain language. It’s also checked on forms and senses, in which case the language of the lexeme containing the form or sense is checked.

For example, Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana ID (former scheme) (P1296) should only be used on Catalan (Q7026) lexemes.

Possible actions[edit]

There are several possible ways to address a violation of this constraint:

  • It’s possible that the language of the lexeme was set to the wrong value, and should be fixed.
  • It’s possible that the wrong property was used, or that the statement shouldn’t exist at all.
  • It’s possible that the statement is a rare, but legitimate exception to the constraint, and nothing should be done.

Parameters[edit]

This constraint has one mandatory parameter:

item of property constraint (P2305)
Specifies a list of allowable language(s) of lexemes this property can be used with. If more than one language is listed, the constraint is satisfied if the language of the lexeme is any of the listed languages.

Each specified language should have a instance of (P31) statement with a value of human language (Q20162172) or a subclass of human language (Q20162172). Wikidata currently includes lexemes for various sign language (Q34228)[1] and constructed language (Q33215).[2] Despite some spoken language (Q1322198) not having writing systems, lexemes for these languages could also be included in Wikidata.

Notes[edit]
