Description
Carnicero, pintor secundario en el panorama artístico de la España de su tiempo, se convierte aquí en cronista de un hecho singular e histórico: la ascensión, que al parecer terminó de forma accidentada, de un globo Montgolfier por el francés Bouclé el 5 de junio de 1784 en los jardines de Aranjuez, en presencia de la familia Real, de la corte y del pueblo, vestido con los trajes característicos de majos y majas. La obra fue encargo de los duques de Osuna, de donde procede el lienzo. Otros autores relacionan el suceso con la ascensión de otro globo de estas características, por el marqués d'Arle y Pilastre de Rozier, el 23 de noviembre de 1783 en París.
