On the order of the Wikidata data elements[edit]

Just a thought: perhaps we should reorder the data elements in the proposed list. As it is now, there are a lot of fields that only apply to International Space Station missions at the top of the list of data elements, and others that only apply to the small subset of all spaceflight launches that have humans on board. Maybe we could order the list better this way:

  • data elements that apply to all orbital space missions
  • data elements that apply to all spaceflight launches, whether orbital or suborbital
  • data elements that apply to specific/repeating activities at orbital space stations (today, this is mostly the ISS, but will become others as China and the several private space stations get their activities underway
  • data elements that apply to humans-onboard spaceflight missions

There may be others. But I don't think we ought to have data elements at the top of the list that apply to only a small subset of missions. Cheers. N2e (talk) 14:08, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Property of astronomical objects[edit]

Hi to all! As noted by Lavallen (and others) some times ago, it is strange that properties for astronomical and space objects are discussed in two separated pages. The reason because properties of astronomical objects are discussed in place page, is that for them GND is geographical feature (Q618123). To avoid confusion (e.g. double proposal requests as is happening), I ask you if you are right to move the proposals of properties for astronomic objects in this page. --Paperoastro (talk) 09:18, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion of "Space" with "Spaceflight"[edit]

I think we ought to be careful to make a clear distinction between "space" (as in Wikipedia:Outer space) and "spaceflight".

If you want to catch the distinction that we worked on, and eventually came to, over in the English Wikipedia, see the descriptions of these three WikiProjects: Wikipedia:WP:WikiProject Spaceflight, Wikipedia:WP:WikiProject Astronomy, and Wikipedia:WP:WikiProject Solar System. Those are the three projects on which we work on very broad array of diverse topics. You may also wish to consult the defunct WikiProject Wikipedia:WP:WikiProject Space to find some of the discussions and confusion from when we previously conflated the topics.

In the case of WikiData, I think we ought to use the term "spaceflight" whenever (and always) we are dealing with spaceflight-related matters, and not conflate it by sometimes using "space" and other times using "spaceflight." Cheers. N2e (talk) 16:44, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Originally it was created as page for discussion all non-Earth themes: spaceflight, astronomy, Solar System and etc. There is one common term in Russian for all these themes: космос. I translate this term as "space" to English. Maybe not very good translation. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 20:49, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
